ORIGINS

The Fender Telecaster was developed by Leo Fender in Fullerton, California in 1949. Prior to its creation, the solid-body electric guitar had been created independently by several craftsman and companies, in the period roughly between 1932–1949, but none of these guitars had made a significant impact on the market. Leo Fender's Telecaster was the design that finally put the solid-body guitar on the map.
Fender had an electronics repair shop called Fender's Radio Service where he first repaired, then designed, amplifiers and electromagnetic pickups for musicians—chiefly players of electric semi-acoustic guitars, electric Hawaiian (lap steel) guitars, and mandolins. Players had been 'wiring up' their instruments in search of greater volume and projection since the late 1920s, and electric semi-acoustics (such as the Gibson ES-150) had long been widely available. Tone had never, until then, been the primary reason for a guitarist to go electric, but in 1943, when Fender and his partner, Doc Kauffman, built a crude wooden guitar as a pickup test rig, local country players started asking to borrow it for gigs. It sounded shiny and sustaining. Fender got curious, and in 1949, when it was long-understood that solid construction offered great advantages in electric instruments, but before any commercial solidbody Spanish guitars had caught on (the small Audiovox company apparently offered a modern, solidbody electric guitar as early as the mid-1930s), he built a better prototype.
That hand-built prototype, an anomalous white guitar, had most of the features of what would become the Telecaster. It was designed in the spirit of the solid-body Hawaiian guitars manufactured by Rickenbacker -- small, simple units made of Bakelite and aluminum with the parts bolted together—but with wooden construction. (Rickenbacker, then spelled 'Rickenbacher,' had also offered a solid Bakelite-bodied electric Spanish guitar in 1935, many details of which seem echoed in Fender's design.)
The initial single pickup production model appeared in 1950, and was called the Esquire. Fewer than fifty guitars were originally produced under that name, and most were replaced under warranty because of early manufacturing problems. In particular, the Esquire necks had no truss rod and many were replaced due to bent necks. Later in 1950, this single-pickup model was discontinued, and a two-pickup model was renamed the Broadcaster. From this point onwards all Fender necks incorporated truss rods. The Gretsch company, itself a manufacturer of hollowbody electric guitars (and now owned by Fender), claimed that "Broadcaster" violated the trademark for its Broadkaster line of drums, and as a newcomer to the industry, Fender decided to bend and changed the name to Telecaster, after the newly popular medium of television. (The guitars manufactured in the interim bore no name, and are now popularly called 'Nocasters.') The Esquire was reintroduced as a one-pickup Telecaster, at a lower price.
In 1951, Fender also released the Precision Bass which was a stablemate to the Telecaster. This was later released as the Fender Telecaster Bass when the P-Bass line was updated to more closely resemble the Stratocaster.

THE TELECASTER SOUNDS

The Telecaster is known for its bright, rich, cutting tone. One of the secrets to the Telecaster's sound centers on the bridge pickup, which has more windings than the neck pickup and hence has a much higher output, sometimes having twice the inductance of the neck pickup. At the same time, a capacitor is fitted between the slider of the volume control and the output, allowing treble sounds to bleed through while the mid and lower ranges are damped. [3] A slanting bridge pickup enhances the guitar's treble tone. The solid body allows the guitar to deliver a clean amplified version of the strings' tone. This was an improvement on previous electric guitar designs, whose hollow bodies made them prone to unwanted feedback. These design elements allowed musicians to emulate steel guitar sounds, making it particularly useful in country music. Such emulation can be enhanced by use of a B-Bender (B-string bending device invented by Gene Parsons of The Byrds and pioneered by country guitarist Clarence White), enabling a smooth, precise change of pitch for a single string within a chord. White's original Telecaster fitted with the B-Bender device is now in the possession of country guitarist Marty Stuart who uses the guitar as his main onstage instrument. Stuart has nicknamed the guitar "Clarence" after its original owner.

SIGNATURES TELECASTER PLAYERS

Over the years, many famous guitarists have made the Telecaster their signature instrument. In the early days, country session musicians were drawn to this instrument designed for the "working musician." These included Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings, James Burton, who played with such stars as Ricky Nelson, Elvis Presley, and Merle Haggard (a Signature Telecaster model player himself). Burton's favorite guitar was his famous Pink Paisley model Telecaster. Later, Danny Gatton blended diverse musical styles (including blues, rockabilly and bebop) with such great proficiency and clarity that he became known as the "telemaster." Eric Clapton used a Telecaster during his stint with The Yardbirds, and also played a Custom Telecaster fitted with Brownie's neck while with Blind Faith. Roy Buchanan and Albert Collins proved the Telecaster equally suited for playing the blues. Muddy Waters also consistently used the Telecaster and Mike Bloomfield also used the guitar on his earlier works. Soul sessionist Steve Cropper used a crisp, spare Tele sound with Booker T. and the M.G.'s, Sam and Dave, Otis Redding and countless other soul and blues acts. Additionally, George Harrison used a custom-built rosewood Telecaster during the recording sessions for The Beatles' Let It Be album (including the famous rooftop concert), on which the sound of the Telecaster was modified by being amplified through a revolving Leslie cabinet speaker.
With the development of rock, the Tele inspired and sustained yet another genre. Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones has composed many classic riffs on his battered "Micawber" Tele. With endurance to match that of his guitar, Bruce Springsteen has given many energetic performances with his Esquire. Iconic are also worn-off green and respectively white Telecasters of the two frontmen of Status Quo, Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt. Another signature Telecaster player is Andy Summers of The Police. Jimmy Page used a psychedelic-colored 1958 Telecaster, (painted by Page himself, and also known as the "Dragon Telecaster") on the first Led Zeppelin albums, and also for the lead solo in the 1971 song "Stairway to Heaven". The guitar had been given to Page by his friend Jeff Beck,[4] but by the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin's fourth album, on which "Stairway" appears, Page had begun using various Gibson electric guitars heavily, so the use of the Telecaster was considered unusual. Albert Lee's extensive use of the Telecaster earned him the nickname of "Mr. Telecaster." Joe Strummer (frontman of the punk band The Clash) used his worn and battered 1966 Telecaster (originally Sunburst but spray painted black) with its distinctive "Ignore Alien Orders" sticker from the beginning of his musical career until the day he died. In January 2007, Fender issued the G. E. Smith signature Telecaster in honour of Smith's reputation as a modern master of the Telecaster. G.E. Smith was the lead guitarist in the Hall & Oates band and the musical director of Saturday Night Live. Though preferring the Epiphone Sheraton and similar ES-335 Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher also uses the 60's Telecaster model when performing live and for recording albums including the recent Oasis album Dig Out Your Soul (2008).

USTAZ ASRI IBRAHIM (1969 - 2009)

Tanggal 13 Ogos 2009. Hanya sepuluh hari berganjak dari tarikh genapnya 40 tahun Al-marhum melihat dunia. Agak muda? ya.. tetapi apakah mati itu mengenal usia?. Entah esok entah lusa mungkin pula giliran kita. Apakah kita pasti nafas yang dihirup ini bukan yang terakhir?
Gemersik suara yang selama ni kerap menjengah telinga , baik melalui zikir munajatnya mahupun nasyidnya yang pelbagai irama segalanya pernah menjadi halwa telinga. Kini gerangan empunya suara telah pergi buat selama-lamanya. Takdir yang telah ditentukan oleh Yang empunya Dunia.
Aku termanggu agak lama. Antara percaya dengan tidak. Apakah aku bermimpi?? Mungkin juga tugasnya telah cukup sampai disini. Oleh kerana kehadirannya sebagai pinjaman maka kini telah sampai masanya Yang Mencipta mengambilnya semula. Tinggallah alunan zikir serta nasihat dalam lagu sebagai jariah untuk bekal di alam yang berbeza.
Ini bukan mimpi tapi realiti. Ustaz Asri Ibrahim sudah tiada lagi. Beliau telah pergi.. dan Pemergian beliau kali ini bukan pemergian biasa tetapi PERGI TAK KEMBALI.

Kelebihan Ramadan

Daripada Anas (r.a), Katanya: Bersabda Nabi (s.a.w) : Tiada daripada seorang hamba apabila melihat ia sehari bulan Ramadan lantas dia memuji Allah ( kerana kedatangan bulan rahmat dengan kelebihan dan keistimewaanya) kemudian dibacanya Al-Fatihah tujuh kali, melainkan diafiatkan Allah daripada sakit matanya pada bulan ini.
Kelebihan bulan Ramadan dan keagungannya dengan adanya malam Lailatul Qadar yang dirahsiakan, sehingga mendapat keampunan dan pahala serta darjat dan darjah tertinggi bagi orang yang berjaya mendapatkan malam Lailatul Qadar dengan dipenuhi amal ibadah dan bertaqwa kepada Allah, disamping sembahyangnya yang sunat , istiqfar, tasbih dan berzikir sepenuhnya.

Berkata Saidina Ali, Nabi (s.a.w) telah bersabda apabila engkau melihat sehari bulan maka bacalah olehmu "AllahuAkbar" 3 kali, kemudian bacalah :
(Segala kepujian bagi Allah yang telah menjadikan aku dan telah menjadikan engkau, dan telah menentukan bagi engkau pangkat-pangkat (darjah) dan telah menjadikan engkau tanda (kekuasaan) bagi sekalian alam) nescaya bermegah Allah akan Dia dengan malaikat dan firmanNya: Hai malaikat! saksikanlah kamu, bahwa Aku telah merdekakan daripada api neraka, atau dibacakan :
(Ya Allah, zahirlah Ramadan atas kami dengan keamanan dan keimanan dan dengan keselamatan dan keIslaman, Tuhanku dan Tuhan engkau Allah.)
Bersabda Nabi (s.a.w) : Bahawa syurga berlenggang-lenggang ia dan berhias dari setahun ke setahun kerana masuknya bulan Ramadan. Pada awal malam bulan Ramadan bertiup angin di bawah Arasy bergeraklah daun kayu lemah-longlainya di dalam syurga. Terdengarlah desiran daun-daun kayu, hembusan sang bayu syurga yang teramat indahnya.Seni rentak lagunya menawan seluruh perasaan nurani. Maka berhiaslah bidadari sekaliannya lalu berdirilah di atas puncak mercu syurga itu. Lantas bersuaralah bidadari : Adakah orang yang hendak meminang kami kepada Allah, kata bidadari pula: Apakah malam ini namanya? jawab Malek Ridwan (malaikat), Hai bidadari yang cantik manis, inilah malam awal Ramadhan, Lalu Allah berfirman: Hai Ramadan bukalah pintu syurga Bab AlJanan untuk orang-orang yang berpuasa daripada umat Muhammad (s.a.w). Hai Malek Ridwan tutuplah pintu neraka Al-Jahim daripada umat Muhammad (s.a.w), hai Jibrail belenggukan syaitan, lontarkannya ke dalam lautan supaya tidak membinasakan umat Muhammad akan puasanya. Maka berfirman Allah pada tiap-tiap malam Ramadan tiga kali : Adakah orang yang meminta ampun? Akan Aku ampunkan!
Pada malam Lailatul Qadar menyuruh Allah Ta'ala akan Jibrail Alaihisalam turun ke bumi, lalu turunlah Jibrail ke dalam perhimpunan malaikat ke bumi bersamanya bendera hijau lalu dipacakkan ke atas Kaabah, baginya 600 sayapnya , setengahnya tiada dibuka keduanya, melainkan pada malam Lailatul Qadar baharulah dibukakan keduanya, hingga sampai dari timur ke barat ( Musyriq Ke Maghrib ). Untuk menyelamatkan umat Muhammad, Lalu memberi salam kepada tiap orang yang berjaga pada malam Lailatul Qadar beribadah kerana mencari keredaan Allah, dan orang-orang yang duduk beribadah, orang yang sembahyang dan berzikir dan berjabat tangan sesama mereka mukmin dan mengucap amin doa orang-orang mukmin hingga terbit fajar subuh....... berkata para malaikat kepada Jibrail , apakah Allah berikan pada hajat orang mukmin dari umat Muhammad (s.a.w) pada bulan Ramadan ini? Berkata Jibrail bahawasanya Allah menilik kepada umat Muhammad yang berpuasa dan beribadah padanya dan dimaafkan mereka, diampunkan dosa-dosa mereka, melainkan empat orang yang tiada diampunkan dosanya: yaitu orang yang kekal minum arak, orang yang derhakakan ibubapanya, orang yang memutuskan sillaturrahim dan orang yang tidak bercakap dengan saudaranya lebih dari 3 hari.
Apabila pada malam akhir Ramadan dinamakan malam persalinan. Pada malam hari raya Aidilfitri didatangkan Allah malaikat kepada tiap-tiap negeri turunlah mereka ke bumi, berdiri pada permukaan jalan menyeru dengan suara yang kuat, semua mendengarnya kecuali jin dan manusia berkata mereka, hai umat Muhammad keluarlah kamu menghadap tuhan yang amat mulia (sembahyang raya di pagi raya) yang memberi pemberian yang berpanjangan dan mengampun akan dosa-dosa yang besar. Apabila tibalah umat Muhammad ke tempat sembahyang, firman Allah kepada maliakat : Hai malaikatKu, apakah balasan orang yang mengambil upah apabila selesai kerjanya ? Jawab malaikat , hai Tuhan kami, sempurnakanlah upahnya! Firman Allah bahawa Aku saksikan kamu hai malaikatku, telah aku jadikan pahala mereka dari puasa mereka pada bulan Ramadan mereka mendirikan sembahyang, ialah keredaanKu dan keampunanKu kepada mereka! Maka firmannya lagi : Hai segala hambaku, pohonlah kamu kepada ku, maka demi ketinggianku dan kebesaranku, tiada memohon kepadaku hari ini akak sesuatu bagi agamamu dan duniamu, melainkan Aku kurniakan kepadamu! (Al-Hadith).
Sabda Nabi (s.a.w) : Diberi kepada umatku lima perkara yang belum pernah diberi kepada umat-umat dahulu sebelumnya :

a) Bau mulut orang berpuasa lebih harum daripada kasturi di sisi Allah
b) Segala perbelanjaan dan derita lapar selama puasanya adalah syurga balasannya.
c) Diampunkan dosa-dosa mereka pada malam Lailatul Qadar.
d) Amalan yang dilakukan pada bulan Ramadan digandakan kepada 10 hingga 700 kali ganda, melainkan puasa maka ianya bagiKu, Aku balas kepadanya yang berkuasa menahan syahwatnya, makan minumnnya kerana Aku.
e) Dan mereka dikurniakan nikmat kepada mereka keseronokkan ketika berbuka dan ketika menemui tuhan di akhirat.(Al-Hadith)

Sabda Nabi (s.a.w) : Menunaikan yang sunat diberi balasan pahala fardhu, dan amal fardhu diberi balasan 70 kali ganda. Bulan puasa adalah bulan sabar (sabar dalam berbuat taat kepadaNya.), dan sabar itu adalah syurga balasannya bulan ini dilebihkan rezeki kepada hambanya orang mukmin, diampunkan baginya dosa-dosa. Barang siapa memberi makan kepada orang berpuasa pahalanya seperti memerdekakan hamba dan diampunkan dosanya, berkata sahabat : Bagaimana kami tak sanggup memberi makan orang yang berpuasa (berbuka puasa) ya Rasullullah - Allah memberi pahala ini kepada orang yang memberi seteguk susu atau sebiji kurma atau segelas air, barang siapa kenyangkan orang berpuasa diampunkan Tuhan dosanya, diminumkan Tuhan dari kolam Hudh sejenis minuman yang tiada dahaga lagi kemudiannya hingga masuk ia ke syurga dan pahalanya seperti pahala orang berpuasa. (Al-Hadith)

Puasa menurut segala yang disuruh dan menjauh segala pantang larangannya, diampunkan dosanya, dan bertasbih, bertahlil dibinakan rumah indah dalam syurga.
Barang siapa hadir ke dalam majlis zikir pada bulan Ramadan, ditulis tiap langkahnya ibadat setahun, dan pada hari Qiamat bersamaku di bawah Arasy. Siapa tetap berjemaah dalam bulan puasa didirikan kota bercahaya indah, cemerlangnya , dan yang berbakti kepada ibubapanya Allah memandang rahmat kepadanya, dan isteri yang berbuat sesuatu mencari keredaan suaminya, maka pahala yang besar Allah kurniakan kepadanya , seperti Siti Maryam dan siapa yang menyampaikan hajat orang mukmin, Allah menunaikan seribu hajatnya, dan siapa bersedekah kepada fakir miskin (yang ada anak isteri) tiap langkah dikurniakan kepadanya seribu kebajikan, dihapuskan seribu kejahatan dan diangkatkan seribu darjat baginya. (Al-Hadith).

Orang yang sembahyang bulan Ramadan tiap sekali sujud, dikurniakan kepadanya 1700 kebajikan, dan dibinakan rumah didalam syurga daripada permata bagi orang yang berpuasa dan beribadat, 75000 malaikat meminta ampun baginya dari pagi hingga tenggelam matahari, dan dibina sebuah mahligai baginya . (Al-Hadith)
Pada hari Qiamat, Allah memerintah Malek Ridwan supaya dikeluarkan orang-orang berpuasa daripada kuburnya dengan keadaan lapar dan dahaga, lalu disuruh Malek Ridwan berikan segala keinginan mereka dari segala macam makanan dan minuman syurga. Orang mukmin yang tidur dalam bulan puasa kerana puasa Ramadan, dia membalikkan badannya sambil meyebut Allah! maka kata malaikat kepadanya : Rahimakallah (Allah Mencucuri Rahmat kepada kamu.)
- Apabila dia berdiri maka berdoalah hamparannya :
(Wahai Tuhanku, kurniakanlah kepadanya hamparan permaidani tebal kepadanya di dalam syurga)
- Apabila memakai pakaian , berdoalah pakaian
(Wahai Tuhanku, kurniakan kepadanya pakaian syurga)
- Apabila memakai kasut, berdoalah kasut
(Wahai Tuhanku, tetapkanlah atas titian Siratul Mustaqim!)

Malaikat yang banyak muka bersujud kepada Allah pada hari Qiamat, satu muka sujud , satu muka melihat syurga, satu muka melihat neraka, satu muka melihat Arasy , lalu berkata malaikat itu : Wahai Tuhanku , ampunlah umat Muhammad, kasihanilah mereka! janganlah disiksa orang yang berpuasa Ramadan dari umat Muhammad! -Ramadan, Ramada, ertinya : membakar - yakni menghapuskan dosa dosa orang yang berpuasa dan beribadat bulan Ramadan.

Ramadan ertinya bulan mendapatkan keredhaan Allah dan keampunan bagi hambaNya. Orang yang mendapat keredhaan dan keampunan Allah bererti memberi jaminan (kerana ibadatnya pada bulan mulia dengan penuh taat) mendapat syurga anugerah Allah bagi hambaNya yang benar benar melakukan ibadat kerana Nya pada bulan Ramadan termulia ini dengan ganjaran pahala sehingga seribu kali ganda dan keampunan yang banyak sekali, teristimewa pada malam Lailatul Qadar.

"Bahawa di dalam syurga terdapat bilik bilik, dilihat dari luar nampak di dalamnya dan dilihat dari dalam kelihatan di luarnya, berkata sahabat : untuk siapakah ya Rasulullah? Lantas Baginda menjawab : Ialah bagi orang yang baik percakapannya, bagi orang yang memberi makan makanan, bagi orang yang sentiasa berpuasa, bagi orang yang sembahyang di tengah malam sedang manusia banyak tidur." "Semulia mulia sedeqah ialah sedeqah pada bulan Ramadhan." (Al Hadith)
"Puasa itu perisai dan sedeqah itu memadam kesalahan dosa sepertimana air memadamkan api." (Al Hadith)

Sabda Nabi (s.a.w) : Tiada daripada seorang hamba berpuasa Ramadan, diam tiada berkata yang sia sia dan daripada yang haram dan yang makruh, dan sentiasa menyebut Allah (berzikrullah), menghalalkan yang dihalalkan Allah, mengharamkan akan yang diharamkan Allah, tiada mengerjakan kejahatan, melainkan sehingga berakhir Ramadan, telah diampunkan baginya segala dosanya, dan tiap tasbih, tiap tahlil, dibinakan sebuah rumah yang terindah di dalam syurga daripada permata zamrud, di dalamnya daripada yaqut merah indah, di dalam rangka permata itu (yaqut) terdapat sebuah khemah, di dalamnya terdapat bidadari ( hurul ain isteri syurga). Terhias dengan permata bercahaya indah yang menerangkan bumi seluruhnya.(Al Hadith)

Sabda Nabi (s.a.w) : Bahawasanya bagi Allah beberapa kejadianNya, dijadikan mereka supaya menyampaikan segala hajat orang dan supaya orang meminta tolong kepada Nya, pada menyempurnakan segala hajat yang diperlukan, mereka itulah orang yang aman daripada siksa Allah (Riwayat At Tibrani) (Al-Hadith)

Sabda Nabi (s.a.w) : Bahawa pintu langit dan pintu syurga dibuka pada awal Ramadan hingga akhir malam Ramadan, tiap orang yang bersembahyang pada malamnya dituliskan baginya tiap satu sujud 1700 kebajikan, dibina rumah baginya di dalam syurga daripada yaqut merah indah, baginya 70 pintu daripada emas yang bertatah yaqut permata yang merah, orang yang berpuasa pada awal Ramadan diampunkan segala dosanya hingga ke akhir bulan Ramadan, dibinakan baginya tiap tiap hari sebuah mahligai di dalam syurga, mempunya 1000 pintu daripa emas, dan meminta ampun baginya 70 000 malaikat dari pagi hingga tenggelam matahari (Al Hadith)

Sabda Nabi (s.a.w) : Kelebihan hari Jumaat pada bulan Ramadan atas segala hari yang lainnya seperti kelebihan Ramadan atas segala bulan (Al Hadith)

Barangsiapa mengerjakan ibadat pada bulan Ramadan dengan keimanannya dan ikhlasnya kerana Allah, maka di ampunkan segala dosanya yang telah lalu (Al Hadith)

Sabda Nabi (s.a.w) : Tidur orang yang berpuasa itu adalah ibadat, dan nafasnya itu adalah tasbih, doanya itu mustajab, dosanya diampunkan Allah, dan amal ibadatnya dilipatgandakan . (Al Hadith)

Apabila berakhir bulan Ramadan, menangis wali-wali Allah kerana terpisahnya bulan yang paling mulia yang digandakan ibadat berlipatkali ganda daripada bulan bulan yang lainnya, bulan Allah mudah menerima ampun taubat hambaNya, bulan yang banyak sekali diturun rahmat ke alam, bulan yang terdapat padanya malam Lailatul Qadar, suatu rahmat dan rahsia yang dikurniakan kepada hamba hamba Nya yang salihin, yang tidak terdapat pada bulan bulan yang lainnya. Mereka menangis kerana belum tentu akan dapat menemui bulan termulia ini pada tahun tahun hadapan, kiranya dipanjangkan umur.
Apabila berakhirlah malam bulan Ramadan, menangislah tujuh petala langit dan tujuh petala bumi, dan segala malaikat, jerana berlalu Ramadan berlalulah kelebihan, sebab musibah bagi umatku, dan duduk segala malaikat bagi musibah, orang bertanya : Ya Rasullullah, apa itu musibah ? Jawab rasullullah (s.a.w), Kerana segala doa padaNya itu mustajab, sedakah makbul, segala kebajikan digandakan dan siksa kubur diangkat, maka apakah musibah yang terlebih besar daripada ini bagi umatku?! (Al-Hadith)

Malam Lailatul Qadar adalah malam rahsia, yang turunnya padanya malaikat Jibrail dan beberapa malaikat dengan perintah Allah. Orang yang berjaga dengan malam ibadatnya untuk mendapatkan malam Lailatul Qadar yang terahsia itu yang tidak diketahui oleh manusia, hanya orang-orang solihin yang hampir, orang berusaha mendapatkan malam mulia itu dengan berjaga malam pada sepuloh malam Ramadan yang terakhir maka diampunkan tuhan segala dosanya. Di pahalakannya dengan banyak , dirahmatkannya dengan limpah kurnia. Dan orang-orang solihin yang dikurniakan Allah mendapat malam Lailatul Qadar itu satu keberuntungan kebahagiaan bagi akhirat, mendapat keampunan dan rahmat terbesar, mendapat pimpinan Allah dalam hatinya, mendapat keredaan Allah dalam hidupnya dunia dan akhirat.
Malam Aidilfitri, malam raya, disunatkan kepada kita berjaga malam, beribadah, bertakbir "AllahuAkbar" sepanjang malamnya. Akan mendapat keampunan yang banyak, pahala yang besar, rahmat Allah tercurah kepadanya. Siapa yang menghidupkan dua malam raya (AidilFitri & AidilAdha) dengan ibadatnya dan takbirnya , tiada dimatikan hatinya pada hari yang dimatikan segala hati. (Al-Hadith).

Pengisytiharan kemerdekaan oleh Tunku Abdul Rahman

Pengisytiharan Kemerdekaan Tanah Melayu merupakan peristiwa pengumuman kemerdekaan Tanah Melayu pada 31 Ogos 1957. Tarikh ini dipilih dalam mesyuarat antara Ketua Pemuda UMNO Tun Sardon Jubir dan timbalannya Haji Ahmad Badawi (bapa Perdana Menteri Malaysia ke 5) di Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang pada 1956. Mufti Pulau Pinang, Haji Abdullah Fahim (bapa Haji Ahmad Badawi) turut ikut serta dalam perbincangan tersebut.

Malam Merdeka

Sebelum pemasyhuran kemerdekaan Tanah Melayu dibuat, pada 30 Ogos 1957 pukul 12.00 tengah malam di Padang Kelab Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, telah diadakan upacara menurunkan bendera Union Jack bagi menandakan berakhirnya penjajahan British di Tanah Melayu dan lahirnya sebuah negara baru yang berdaulat, setaraf dan setimpal dengan semua negara-negara yang berdaulat di dunia. Bendera Persekutuan Tanah Melayu telah dinaikkan oleh anggota Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM) sambil disaksikan sendiri oleh Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Upacara Pengisytiharan

Pada 31 Ogos 1957 bertempat di stadium yang baru dirasmikan iaitu Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur telah menyaksikan peristiwa bersejarah bagi Tanah Melayu iaitu secara rasminya penyerahan pemerintahan Persekutuan Tanah Melayu daripada pemerintahan British kepada warganegara Tanah Melayu.
Hujan lebat yang turun sejak 3 pagi menyukarkan pergerakan dan sehingga 6.30 pagi, stadium masih belum dipenuhi oleh pengunjung. Ini menyebabkan upacara telah ditangguhkan selama sejam dan pengumuman majlis bermula kedengaran bukan pada pukul tujuh seperti yang dijangka tetapi pada pukul lapan. 2,000 orang tentera Persekutuan menumpang di sekolah-sekolah berhampiran stadium sebelum itu berarak dalam hujan dan tujuh batalion yang membuat perarakan ketika itu iaitu Rejimen Persekutuan, Skuadron Isyarat, Skuadron Jurutera, Tentera Laut Diraja Tanah Melayu, Tentera Laut Simpanan Diraja Tanah Melayu dan Askar Sivil Persekutuan.
Pada pukul 8, para media telah diberi pengumuman untuk bersedia dan semua peralatan kamera dan media ketika itu dipasang dengan perlindungan plastik atau pelapik kalis air lain di sekitar padang yang lembap. Kebetulan, hujan reda yang memungkin segala persiapan sebelum upacara bermula dapat dijalankan dengan mudah. Pengunjung bertambah ramai untuk menyaksikan upacara bersejarah ini.
Antara kumpulan pengunjung yang tiba di stadium adalah Kadet, Pengakap Laut (dengan pakaian putih, topi putih dan seluar pendek berwarna biru), Pandu Puteri (berpakaian biru muda), Pengakap (dengan kain skaf, berwarna merah dan emas, merah dan hitam, merah dan biru, merah dan putih), Pasukan Briged St. John's Ambulance dan Palang Merah British turut mengambil tempat di sisi stadium manakala kumpulan pancaragam dan pengawal kehormat berada di susur terowong masuk.
Kemudian, tetamu-temamu kehormat mula tiba Lord Chancellor dari England berpakaian yang sama seperti ketika dia menjadi hakim Mahkamah Tinggi Persekutuan. Pemangku Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan merupakan Raja Melayu yang pertama berangkat tiba diikuti Tengku Mahkota Johor (dalam pakaian uniform tentera baginda) yang menggantikan Sultan Johor, Sultan Perak (berpakaian berwarna krim), Sultan Terengganu (berpakaian emas bersama merah gelap dan hijau), Sultan Kelantan (berpakaian emas pucat), Sultan Kedah (berpakaian biru dan perak) Raja Perlis (berpakaian emas), Sultan Pahang (berwarna merah senduduk dan dan perak) serta yang akhir sekali, baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong yang berpakaian perang serta memakai keris yang baru. Setiap daripada baginda diiringi bunyi nafiri dan berdiri di bawah payung kuning keemasan sambil Yang di-Pertuan Agong berjalan ke tempat duduk baginda. Pengunjung stadium masih lagi berdiri apabila Duke of Gloucester masuk sambil diiringi Sir Donald MacGillivray. Dengan ketibaan semua tetamu diraja, upacara Pengisytiharan dimulakan.
Adikung Duke membawa watikah perlembagaan yang menyatakan pengunduran daripada perlindungan British terhadap negeri-negeri Melayu dan kedaulatan terhadap Pulau Pinang dan Melaka. Raja-raja Melayu mula melangkah ke pentas dan Duke mengambil tempat di depan pentas sambil menerima hormat diraja sambil diiringi oleh Sir Donald MacGillivray. Ketika itu merupakan kali terakhir satu-satu upacara negara menyanyikan lagi kebangsaan British di Persekutuan Tanah Melayu. Kemudian, baginda Duke membacakan perutusan daripada baginda Ratu Elizabeth II akan pernyataan baginda yang mengalukan kemasukan Persekutuan ke dalam Komanwel dan mendoakan kejayaan negara ini.
Kemudian, Perdana Menteri Tunku Abdul Rahman bangun dari tempat duduknya dan menerima watikah perlembagaan sebagai lambang penyerahan kuasa pemerintahan sepenuhnya kepada Persekutuan Tanah Melayu. Duke mengambil tempat duduk dan Tunku mulakan ucapannya dalam bahasa Inggeris. Setelah Tunku mengucapkan penghargaan kepada Great Britain akan pertolongan untuk mencapai kemerdekaan, beliau mula membaca teks "Pengisytiharan Kemerdekaan".
Pengisytiharan itu disambut dengan laungan "MERDEKA" 7 kali sebagai Perdana Menteri Persekutuan Tanah Melayu yang pertama di hadapan 20 ribu rakyat Persekutuan Tanah Melayu dan Raja-rajanya serta perwakilan dari 30 negara-negara Komanwel dan negara-negara asing lainnya. Bendera Persekutuan Tanah Melayu telah dinaikkan dengan iringan Lagu Kebangsaan Negaraku yang buat pertama kalinya diperdengarkan secara rasmi dalam sebuah negara baru. Diikuti pula selepas itu dengan seruan azan sebagai simbolik lahirnya sebuah negara yang baru dan tembakan meriam seratus satu das.
Dengan bunyi nobat nafiri, Yang di-Pertuan Agong diiringi oleh Duke of Gloucester, berangkat pergi dari pentas diikiuti oleh pemerintah Melayu yang lain, Perdana Menteri dan Sir Donald MacGillivray. Kemudian, Doa Selamat dibacakan bagi memohon keberkatan dan keredhaan Allah terhadap sebuah negara yang baru dilahirkan
Dengan pengisytiharan itu, maka berakhirlah penjajahan Inggeris dan kuasa Baginda Ratu ke atas Persekutuan Tanah Melayu termasuk Pulau Pinang dan Melaka iaitu sejak lebih 170 tahun. Pada hari itu juga Pesuruhjaya Tinggi British terakhir di Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, Sir Donald MacGillivray dan isterinya telah meninggalkan negara ini dan pulang ke England.

Tetamu kehormat

Apabila Tanah Melayu meraikan Hari Kemerdekaannya yang pertama, hotel-hotel baru didirikan di serata Kuala Lumpur untuk menampung delegasi luar yang bakal datang setelah dijemput oleh Kerajaan Persekutuan Tanah Melayu untuk menyaksikan hari bersejarah tersebut.

Dengan nama Allah yang Maha Pemurah lagi Mengasihani, segala puji bagi Allah yang Maha Berkuasa dan selawat dan salam ke atas sekalian Rasul-Nya.
Bahawasanya kerana telah tibalah masanya bagi umat Persekutuan Tanah Melayu ini mencapai taraf suatu bangsa yang merdeka lagi berdaulat sama setimpal kedudukannya dengan segala bangsa seluruh dunia.
Dan bahawasanya kerana dengan perjanjian yang disebut namanya Perjanjian Tanah Melayu tahun 1957 yang diperbuat antara Duli Yang Maha Mulia Baginda Queen dengan Duli-Duli Yang Maha Mulia Raja-Raja Melayu, maka, telah dipersetujui bahawa Negeri-negeri Melayu, iaitu Johor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu, dan Perak serta negeri yang dahulunya dinamakan Negeri Selat, iaitu Melaka dan Pulau Pinang, mulai 31 hari bulan Ogos tahun 1957, hendaklah menjadi sebuah Persekutuan baharu bagi negeri-negeri yang bernama Persekutuan Tanah Melayu.
Dan bahawasanya kerana telah bersetuju pula antara kedua-dua pihak dalam perjanjian tersebut, iaitu Melaka dan Pulau Pinang hendaklah daripada tarikh tersebut itu tamat daripada menjadi sebahagian daripada jajahan takluk Baginda Queen, dan Duli Yang Maha Mulia Baginda Queen tidak lagi berhak menjalankan apa-apa kedaulatan baginda ke atas kedua-dua buah negeri yang tersebut itu.
Dan bahawasanya kerana telah bersetuju pula antara kedua-dua pihak yang tersebut, iaitu Perjanjian Persekutuan Tanah Melayu tahun 1948, dan segala peranjian yang lain yang ada sekarang antara Duli Yang Maha Mulia Baginda Queen dengan Duli-Duli Yang Maha Mulia Raja-Raja ataupun salah seorang daripada baginda itu sebelum tarikh yang tersebut hendaklah dibatalkan mulai daripada tarikh itu, dan semua kuat kuasa dan hak Duli Yang Maha Mulia Baginda Queen ataupun Parlimen Negeri United Kingdom dalam Negeri-Negeri Selat ataupun Persekutuan Tanah Melayu seluruhannya adalah tamat dengan sendirinya.
Dan bahawasanya kerana Duli Yang Maha Mulia Baginda Queen, Duli-Duli Yang Maha Mulia Raja-Raja Melayu, Parlimen Negeri United Kingdom dan Majlis-Majlis Undangan Persekutuan dan Negeri-Negeri Melayu telah meluluskannya, Perjanjian Persekutuan Tanah Melayu tahun 1957 itu berjalan kuat kuasanya.
Dan bahawasanya kerana suatu perlembagaan bagi kerajaan Persekutuan Tanah Melayu telah ditentukan menjadi suatu kanun yang muktamad baginya.
Dan bahawasanya kerana Perlembagaan Persekutuan yang tersebut itu, maka, ada disediakan syarat untuk menjaga keselamatan hak-hak dan keutamaan Duli-Duli Yang Maha Mulia Raja-Raja serta hak-hak asasi dan kebebasan sekalian rakyat dan untuk memajukan Persekutuan Tanah Melayu dengan aman dan damai serta teratur sebagai sebuah kerajaan yang mempunyai Raja yang Berperlembagaan yang berdasarkan demokrasi cara Parlimen.
Dan bahawasanya kerana Perlembagaan Persekutuan yang diadakan oleh Majlis Undangan Persekutuan yang tersebut itu telah diluluskan oleh suatu undang-undang yang diadakah oleh Majlis Undangan Persekutuan serta dengan undang-undang yang diadakan oleh negeri-negeri Melayu dan dengan ketetapan-ketetapan dalam Majlis Undangan Negeri Melaka dan Pulau Pinang, dengan demikian Perlembagaan itu telah berjalan kuat kuasanya pada 31 hari bulan Ogos tahun 1957.
Maka, dengan nama Allah yang Maha Pemurah lagi Maha Mengasihani, saya Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, Perdana Menteri bagi Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, dengan persetujuan dan perkenan Duli-Duli Yang Maha Mulia Raja-Raja negeri-Negeri Melayu dengan ini memasyhurkan dan mengisytiharkan bagi pihak umat Persekutuan Tanah Melayu bahawa mulai Tiga Puluh Satu hari bulan Ogos Tahun Seribu Sembilan Ratus Lima Puluh Tujuh, maka Persekutuan Tanah Melayu yang mengandungi Negeri Johor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Melaka dan Pulau Pinang dengan limpah rahmat Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala akan kekal menjadi sebuah negara yang merdeka dan berdaulat serta berdasarkan kebebasan dan keadilan dan sentiasa menjaga dan mengutamakan kesejahteraan dan kesentosaan rakyatnya dan mengekalkan keamanan antara segala bangsa.

Yasmin Ahmad (July 1, 1958 - July 25, 2009) was a critically-acclaimed multi-award winning film director, writer and scriptwriter from Malaysia and was also the executive creative director at Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur. Her television commercials and films are well-known in Malaysia for their humour, heart and love that crosses cross-cultural barriers, in particular her ads for Petronas, the national oil and gas company. Her works have won multiple awards both within Malaysia and internationally.

Early life and career

Yasmin was born in Kampung Bukit Treh in Muar, Johor on July 1, 1958. A graduate in arts majoring in politics and psychology from Newcastle University in England, she worked as a trainee banker in 1982 for two weeks. After that she worked for IBM as a marketing representative while moonlighting as a blues singer and pianist by night. Yasmin began her career in advertising as a copywriter at Ogilvy & Mather. In 1993 she moved to Leo Burnett as joint creative director with Ali Mohammed and eventually rising to executive creative director at Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur.

Breakthrough

Her first feature length film was Rabun in 2002. Yasmin's films have won many international awards and praise from the critics and public alike. Most of her films have been screened at the Berlin, San Francisco, Singapore and Cannes (film market) international film festivals. Her films were featured in a special retrospective at the 19th Tokyo International Film Festival in October 2006. An April 2007 retrospective of her feature films was sponsored by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, University of Hawaii, and the Honolulu Academy of Arts. In Singapore, Yasmin is best known for the pro-family commercials she did for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. Yasmin was inducted into the Malaysian Advertising Hall of Fame by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia in November 2008.Yasmin was working on her first feature film to be filmed in Singapore titled, "Go, Thaddeus!" when she passed away. This was to be an inspirational film for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, based on the book, "Running the full distance: Thaddeus Cheong" by Belinda Wee about Singapore's 17 year old National triathlete who passed away after completing the 2007 SEA Games time trial.

Death

On Thursday, July 23, 2009, Yasmin suffered a stroke and remained motionless, seated, she was resting her head on the table, with her hands cupping her face, while attending a meeting with local artist Siti Nurhaliza and her husband Khalid Mohamad Jiwa, and Media Prima representatives for an undisclosed project at Sri Pentas, TV3. Before the meeting, she spent some time with Media Prima's group creative director, Peter Chin and was reported to be in a jovial and relaxed mood.
She was rushed to the Damansara Specialist Hospital where she underwent a neurosurgery procedure to reduce the swelling in her brain. The operation was a success however her condition was critical but stable. Bernama quoted her brother-in-law, Zakaria Zahari, as saying that Yasmin had suffered a stroke and hemorrhaging in the brain.
On Saturday, July 25, 2009, more than 48 hours after the surgery, Yasmin Ahmad succumbed to her injury and was pronounced dead at 11.25pm. On Sunday, July 26, 2009, Yasmin Ahmad was laid to rest at the USJ 22 Muslim Cemetery in Subang Jaya, Selangor. Her husband, Abdullah Tan Yew Leong, their immediate families, hundreds of fans, friends, industry colleagues and personalities gathered to bid her farewell.

dasar persahabatan dan hubungan rapat antara ahli yang terjalin sewaktu di

dengan bermain muzik dan juga untuk menghilangkan rasa tekanan semasa belajar.
Kesemua ahli band Manis tidak pernah mengikuti mana-mana pengajian formal
tentang muzik mahupun mempunyai latar belakang muzik. Manis hanya berbekalkan minat yang mendalam
terhadap muzik dan bakat terpendam yang ingin ditonjolkan. Kesungguhan ini
mendorong Manis mencipta dan menghasilkan lagu-lagu tersendiri yang boleh
dikongsi dan didengari oleh semua lapisan pengemar dan peminat muzik. Manis ingin mencipta satu fenomena baru dalam
industri muzik dan percaya muzik kami boleh menyatukan padukan dan memupuk
semangat persahabatan.....

Muzik yang dibawa oleh Manis adalah sebuah genre baru yang dipanggil ‘universal punk’. Rima asas muzik yang dimainkan
adalah ‘punk’ yang digabungkan dengan muzik universal. Contohnya seperti di
dalam lagu Manis yang mempunyai unsur indie punk, emo punk, pop punk dan punk
rock. Manis percaya dengan kepelbagaian rima punk yang dibawa mampu
memperkenalkan bunyi baru yang boleh mencetus revolusi di arena muzik. ....

Kenapa “Manis”? Pada mulanya, pelbagai nama telah pun dicadangkan sebagai nama
kumpulan dari pelbagai bahasa dan bentuk. Akhirnya keputusan diambil untuk
menamakan band ini sebagai Manis. Perkataan Manis dipilih kerana ia lebih
singkat, mempunyai kepelbagaian maksud, senang diingati dan juga comel. “Manis”
pada pemahaman ahlinya membawa maksud persahabatan, ikatan, kekeluargaan, seni,
muzik kegembiraan, dan paling penting ialah keeratan hubungan antara ahli.....

Who Zee Avi?

Zee Avi is just 23 but she’s an old soul. A huge talent in a petite frame bringing a universal message from the unlikely birthplace of Borneo, an ancient island east of Malaysia which remains an untouched, natural paradise, an apt description of her songs.

How Avi came to record her debut album in L.A., the first joint release from Ian Montone’s Monotone Label and Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records, is a true 21st century tale of the way the Internet has transformed the music business and shrunk the globe in the process.

Born in the tiny town of Miri in Sarawak on the island of Borneo, Zee grew up near the South China Sea in a liberal, encouraging household where her father owned an energy consultancy. “I was bred to be a lawyer,” she says, but music was in her blood. Her father’s father sang and played double-bass, accordion, violin and guitar in bands.

At age 12, Zee moved from Borneo to Kuala Lumpur where she has been based since. At 17, Zee started locking herself in a room for hours on end to learn to play guitar. Guitar took a back seat for 4 years while she was studying fashion design in London. When she returned to Kuala Lumpur, she picked the instrument back up and began writing songs and performing with a band.

Zee began recording her songs on a webcam and posting them on YouTube for a friend to hear. “I remember getting so excited when there was one new comment from some random person I didn’t know… One read ‘I’m lost for words - I shall favorite it and ponder if that’s OK,’ ” which was written by Kris Rowley, a U.K. singer-songwriter with a YouTube following under the name Zzzzzzzzap. He began posting her videos on his site, which began a viral snowball effect.

The day before her 22nd birthday, Zee posted what she intended to be “my last video,” a holiday song, “No Christmas for Me.” By the time she checked her e-mail Avi had almost 3,000 messages including a slew of label offers. One email came from Ian Montone, who had been shown the YouTube clip by Raconteurs’ drummer, Patrick Keeler, prompting Montone to get in touch and offer to release her music on the Monotone Label.

Before she knew it Zee was on a plane to L.A. to record her debut with producer Robert Carranza at Brushfire’s Solar Powered Plastic Plant. “No Christmas for Me” was then featured on the holiday charity album, This Warm December, A Brushfire Holiday, Vol. 1.

With an eclectic pool of influences that range from such eccentrics as Cat Power, Regina Spektor, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Jolie Holland, Daniel Johnston and Chris Garneau, to jazz greats Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, to classics like Velvet Underground and Led Zeppelin, this self-described “rock lover at heart” captures the dark, bittersweet qualities of romance with a crack left open for hope and optimism.

From the sensuous scat singing on “Honey Bee” to the sultry break-up song, “Is This the End,” recalling the existential longing of Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is,” Zee is hopeful of finding love, but equally aware of lurking heartache.

The songs on Zee Avi’s debut are about an outsider’s desire to belong and the tentative hope of moving on, filled with regret and loss, but boasting an impish, worldly wise sensibility. “I tend to be a loner,” she nods. ” ‘Honey Bee’ is about a romance between two nonconformists who are different from the rest of the hive, and are trying to avoid the pressure to be like everybody else.”

“Just You and Me,” the first song she wrote on ukulele, has a ‘20s New Orleans swing jazz vibe.

“I get my melodic feel from the simplicity of classic jazz, people singing what they felt with straightforward lyrics and not too many harmonies,” Zee says. “Just a lot of honesty. I’m a girl of simple pleasures.

The elemental acoustic guitar of “Story of…” is enhanced with an Eno-like ambience that add to its shimmering quality, while “Poppy” is autobiographical “with a little bit of poetic license” that looks back at the demise of a two-year relationship.

“My stuff is pretty dark,” Zee admits. “Most of my songs are about the reality side of romance, outlets to vent my emotions.”

While her live experience amounts to playing gigs in Kuala Lumpur, Zee appeared this January on From the Basement, the U.K. TV webcast/broadcast that has featured Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Damien Rice, the White Stripes and the Shins. From the Basement will also air on the U.S.‘s IFC Channel.

From Malaysia to Los Angeles, Zee Avi is enjoying the ride and ready to take on passengers. “I’m still pinching myself” she gushes. “My parents always told me it’s important to keep yourself grounded. I’m thankful, but at the same time, I just want to jump through the roof. It’s been a pretty amazing journey, getting to work with some really wonderful people, a blessing, really.”

Zee Avi’s Monotone/Brushfire Records debut returns that blessing…and then some.

Monotone Records is owned by Ian Montone, whose Monotone, Inc. manages the White Stripes, M.I.A., The Shins, Vampire Weekend, the Raconteurs, Against Me!, Cold War Kids, Crookers, among others.

Brushfire Records is owned by Jack Johnson and his manager Emmett Malloy and is home to artists like Rogue Wave, Matt Costa, Neil Halstead, Money Mark, G. Love, Mason Jennings, ALO and Zach Gill.

Iyan Nor was born and raised in Ipoh, Perak. She started to be involved in the music industry and playing guitar since she was at the age of 15. Although she is still in her teens, Iyan Nor is already on her way to music superstar with her talent.

Her career began with underground gig performance around Ipoh with her ex-band, Lady's Bird consists of 3 girls and a guy. Iyan Nor was the vocalist and also the 2nd guitar player (rhythm) in the group.

After the group separated, her first step was,she performed solo at hotels and clubs around her hometown, Ipoh. After several years, she then decided to move to Kuala Lumpur and started to perform at hotels and clubs.

Starting from that point, she received a lot of shows performing in hotels and clubs at Genting Highlands and also around Semenanjung Malaysia.

Iyan Nor music concept follows/is/in line with Modern Rock + Rock n' Roll and compilation of different kind of music genre in expanding her career as a singer.Her music influenced by rock band such as Coldplay and Ramones.

She hit the Sinar studio with writers/producers such as Yusainy (STARDUZZ) and Mus May as her vocal coordinator and the result is her 1st baby/single album consists of three songs titled Hanya Untukmu, Kata Cinta and Hanya Untukmu-version 2. Other than vocal coordinator, Mus May also helped in the technical side of creating songs.

KUALA LUMPUR - Selepas berjaya menjadi rakan penaja premium beberapa pasukan perlumbaan bermotor terutama Formula Satu, kini Petronas mengorak langkah dengan mengembangkan sayap jenama mereka ke arena Grand Prix Motosikal Dunia (MotoGP) pula.

Semalam, Petronas menandatangani perjanjian dengan Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd untuk tempoh tiga tahun bagi menjadi rakan penaja rasmi dan premium pasukan Fiat Yamaha.

Melalui perjanjian itu, pasukan Fiat Yamaha akan memaparkan jenama Petronas pada semua seragam pasukan tersebut termasuk pada jentera dan peralatan pelumba Valentino Rossi dan Jorge Lorenzo.

Kedua-dua pihak juga akan berkerjasama untuk menjayakan kejuaraan motosikal di rantau Asia Pasifik bagi tempoh lapan tahun.

Malah, perjanjian itu juga bakal merealisasikan pembangunan dan penghasilan minyak enjin Yamalube untuk semua jentera pengilang peralatan tulen (OEM) Yamaha.

"Ini satu pendirian yang tegas oleh Datuk Seri Najib. Oleh itu saya berasa kalau dia dapat beri pendirian yang tegas dalam perkara ini, perkara lain juga dia akan mempunyai pendirian yang tegas," katanya.

Dr. Mahathir juga berkata, jika beliau boleh mempengaruhi keputusan Najib, beberapa orang yang dilantik juga tidak akan berada dalam Kabinet.

Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Shah bin Syed Nor Al-Bukhary is the richest Bumiputra corporate figure in Malaysia. With involvement in diversified business areas which include transportation and logistics, plantations, property development, defense and armory as well as engineering and power generation, he has a net worth estimated to be US$2.00 billion according to Forbes, making him the 7th richest Malaysian.

EARLY LIFE

Syed Mokhtar al-Bukhary was born into a mid-low class family of Hadhrami Arab descent in north of Peninsular Malaysia; whose house was without necessities and luxuries. His highest education was only until form five, and he never went to university. A whole lot of his knowledge and experience was gained through his own entrepreneurship experience during his youth time.
Due in part his family's mediocre-to-poor background, Syed Mokhtar al Bukhary had to step into the working world in his early life, while pursuing his primary and secondary studies. Syed Mokhtar helped his mother planting and selling vegetables in the market and also selling roti canai. His numeric knowledge was used to help his father in doing daily book keeping.
After finishing school, Syed Mokhtar helped his father in breeding cow business but only to see the business washed away by foot and mouth disease. Nevertheless, he took over the business and start over by selling meats. He then move on to packaging the meats and start selling them wholesale. His determination paid off and the business started to take off.

CAREER

Syed Mokhtar and Zainal started his business in Johor in the 1990s dealing in rice. More success followed and he moved to rice trading business. He worked even harder after awarded the rice trading license from Lembaga Padi Negara, and was later awarded successions of supplier contract government-linked corporations as partner with Zainal Hatim Hj Ambia Bukhary.
As his determination starting to skyrocket, he quickly moved to expand into diversifnication of other businesses. His next big move was in the logistics business, with initial goal to transport their trading materials. As the saying goes, 'the harder you work, the luckier you get'. Today, his business empire has grown into areas such as plantation, property development, construction, engineering, power generation, infrastructure and ports.
He owns 51.8% share in Malaysian Mining Corporation via his wholly-owned company, Syarikat Impian Teladan Sdn. Bhd. Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar and Zainal Hatim personally owns SKS Ventures, which was awarded the task of building the site for 2100MW gas-fired power station at Tanjung Bin, Johor. Tan Sri Syed Mohktar has a 32% share in PERNAS through his own company, Syarikat Ratu Jernih. Syarikat Perdana Padu Sdn. Bhd. and Corak Kukuh Sdn. Bhd. Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar and Zainal are Board Members of Syarikat Bina Puri Holdings Berhad, whereby, on his own, he has 7.34% share. Apart from these, Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar and Zainal has varied interest in a number of companies, both in Malaysia as well as abroad.

CHARITY

His philanthropic values were nurtured from the age of 23 when he started a small business dealing in rice. When he received his first monthly income of RM1,500, his mother had told him to donate half of it to the poor.
From 1996 to 2006, his foundation has contributed almost RM1bil to charity.
He has humanitarian projects in Asia and Africa, including rebuilding the lives of Afghan refugees, Pakistan's earthquake survivors and Indonesia's tsunami victims and is now working to establish an AIDS hospital in Uganda.
Among the foundation's initiatives are the Albukhary Tuition Programme for poor underachievers and the Albukhary Scholarship Programme for poor high achievers.

In appreciation of his enormous services and contributions, he was bestowed with several awards, which among others, include the Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.) by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which carries the title Tan Sri and the Dato' Setia Mahkota Kedah (D.S.D.K.) by HRH The Sultan Kedah, which carries the title Dato'.
On the 10th of January 2008 or 1st Muharram 1429 Hijra he was announced and awarded as "Tokoh Ma'al Hijrah" by The Yang Di Pertuan Agong of Malaysia in recognition of his contribution to nation building.

BIOGRAPHY

Ramlee was born Teuku Zakaria bin Teuku Nyak Puteh to Teuku Nyak Puteh bin Teuku Karim and Che' Mah Hussein at his grandmother's house (now opened as P. Ramlee House) in Counter Hall (now renamed as Jalan P. Ramlee), Penang, Malaysia. His father Teuku Nyak Puteh was a sailor from Lhokseumawe in the province of Aceh, Indonesia.
As a child, he studied in several schools, including the famous Penang Free School. During his school days he was very active in sports, especially sepak takraw, badminton, and football.
He was married three times, the last to the singer Salmah Ismail (or popularly known as Saloma) in 1961.

CAREER

P.Ramlee's big break came on 1 June 1948 when he was spotted by Tamil film director B. S. Rajhans. The director was impressed by Ramlee, and in 1949 he was cast in the film Nasib (Fate). Seven years later, Ramlee directed his first film Penarik Becha (The Trishaw Man). In 1957, Ramlee would act in the first of his Bujang Lapok (Dowdy Bachelors) comedic films that he acted along S. Shamsuddin along with Aziz Sattar, which are still popular among the modern Malay film watchers.
During his career he directed and acted in sixty-six films, and had more than 360 songs to his credit. Among his films that received awards are:

In 1986, in honour of his contributions to the Malaysian entertainment industry, the P. Ramlee Memorial was set up in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. In 1982, Jalan Parry in the KL city centre has been renamed Jalan P. Ramlee in his honor. He was posthumously awarded with the Malaysian honorific title Tan Sri in the early 1990s.

The flag of Malaysia, which was first raised on September 16, 1963, originated from the flag of the Federation of Malaya.
After the British started to collectively administer the eleven states of Malaya as a single entity, the idea of having a national flag was mooted. Prior to that, each state in Malaya had its own flag, many of which are unchanged in design to this very day.

When the Federation of Malaya replaced the short lived Malayan Union, the federation government through the Federal Legislative Council called for a design contest for a new flag. Three flags were forwarded to the public. The first flag had 11 white stars with two Malay kris daggers in the middle against a blue backdrop. The second flag "concentric circle of 11 stars around crossed keris on a blue field." The third "had 11 alternate red and white stripes and a yellow crescent and a five-pointed star on a blue background in the top left hand corner." The third design - by Mohamad Hamzah of the Public Works Department - was chosen as the winner through a public poll held by the Malay Mail.Since Malaya was fighting the communists during the Malayan Emergency, the five-pointed star had the uncanny resemblance with the communists' symbols. Therefore, the star was modified to accommodate six more points.
The Malayan flag was approved by King George VI on 19 May 1950 and was first raised in front of Istana Selangor on 26 May 1950. On 31 August 1957, it was raised upon independence at Merdeka Square in place of the British Union Flag.

The Designer

The Malayan flag was designed by Mohamed Hamzah, a 29-year-old architect working for the Public Works Department (JKR) in Johor Bahru, Johor. He entered the Malayan flag design competition in 1947 with two designs which he completed within two weeks. The first design was a green flag with blue kris in the middle, surrounded by 15 white stars. The second design, which was among the three finalists, was similar to the current flag but with a five-pointed star. The competition attracted 373 entries and voting was made by the general public via post. Malayan senior statesman Dato' Onn Jaafar met with Mohamed Hamzah after he won the competition and suggested that the star be changed to an 11-pointed one to represent all the Malayan states.
Mohamed Hamzah died just short of his 75th birthday on 13 February 1993 in Jalan Stulang Baru, Kampung Melayu Majidee, Johor.

Following the formation of Malaysia on September 16, 1963, the design of the Malayan flag was modified to reflect and honour the new states in the federation.

The Stone Age is a broad prehistoric time period during which humans widely used stone for toolmaking.
Stone tools were made from a variety of different kinds of stone. For example, flint and chert were shaped (or chipped) for use as cutting tools and weapons, while basalt and sandstone were used for ground stone tools, such as quern-stones. Wood, bone, shell, antler(deer) and other materials were widely used, as well. During the most recent part of the period, sediments (like clay) were used to make pottery. A series of metal technology innovations characterize the later Chalcolithic (Copper Age), Bronze Age and Iron Age.

Wau Bulan - Kelantan Traditional Kite

Wau bulan is an intricately designed Malaysian moon-kite (normally with floral motifs) that is traditionally flown by men in the Malaysian state of Kelantan. It's one of Malaysia's national symbols, along some others being the kris and hibiscus. The logo of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is based on this kite.There are many type of wau in Malaysia. Each with its own speciality.Wau kucing(cat kite) and wau merak(peacock kite) are some of them.

Charateristics

Wau Bulan got its name from the cresent-like shape of its tail. Given right color, wau bulan does resemble a rising cresent when flown.[1]
The size of wau bulan is bigger than any other Malaysian traditional kite. The normal width are 2.5 meters and 3.5 meters of height.[2]. This helps the decorations painted on the kite's body to be visible when it is high in the air. To make it more distinctive, wau bulan is normally decorated with strong-colored and large patterns.

Tok Janggut - Kelantan Worrior

Tok Janggut or Haji Mohd Hassan bin Munas (1853 - June 25, 1915) was a famous Malay warrior in Kelantan, Malaysia during British protectorate. He was named Tok Janggut because of his long beard, almost reaching his chest ('janggut' being the Malay word for beard).

Brief Biography

Tok Janggut received his early education in Mecca and a was master in silat, a Malaysian martial art. After the Bangkok Treaty of 1909, Britain took over the administration of Kelantan from Siam, and immediately made significant changes in the administration system. Most of them infuriated Tok Janggut and became the trigger for his rebellion.

Factors of the rebellion

Tax was one reason why Tok Janggut revolted, but there two other causes:
Jihadism- Tok Janggut was influenced by the message of Jihadism promulgated during the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century. The message advocated the fight against Western imperialism
Forced travel - Residents of Pasir Puteh were unable to pay because the government tax office was a great distance away at Kota Bharu. Tok Janggut attempted to go to Kota Bharu to pay the tax but to no avail. Meanwhile, Britain was making it harder for everyone to pay the tax by either putting them in prison or fining them. Besides, the behaviour of the British tax officers there seemed unpleasant for the Kelantan civilians who came there to pay the tax.

Rebellion

On 29 April 1915, the administration of Jeram, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan subsequently fall to Britain's hands. One of the British officers, Encik Latiff took over the administration of Kelantan from the local leader, Engku Jeram. Things seem to go out of control as Encik Latiff, an out-sider and whose native state is not Kelantan, was very stern and firm about collecting tax in Kelantan.
Engku Besar Jeram, immediately called upon Tok Janggut, Haji Said, Che Sahak Merbol and Penghulu Adam, to discuss about the present state of Kelantan. They also signed a pact which prohibits any one of them to co-operate with the Britain. Not surprisingly, their independence fight gained support of most Kelantan residents, which made Encik Latiff worried greatly. He decided to put the situation to a halt before any possible revolt occurs.
On the 29 April 1915, Encik Latiff sent Sergeant Sulaiman, or better-known as Sergeant Che Wan to arrest Tok Janggut for failing to pay the government tax. Tok Janggut agreed but refused to walk in front of them and a fight occurred, in which Tok Janggut manages to stab the sergeant.
Following the event, Tok Janggut immediately assembled all his men and marched towards to Pasir Puteh. Encik Latiff, out of fear, quickly fled Pasir Puteh before the invasion. Here, Tok Janggut fought a battle against the British forces in which ultimately, they are successful. They remained in Pasir Puteh for three days and declared the independence of Pasir Puteh from British rule. Engku Besar Jeram was selected King of Pasir Puteh and Tok Janggut as Prime Minister. Britain immediately decreed Tok Janggut and his fellow comrades as 'traitors.' Britain also promised a reward of $500 for the person who caught Tok Janggut or his comrades, dead or alive.
As a result of Tok Janggut's refusal to surrender, British officers in Kelantan took immediate action by burning down Tok Janggut's house, as well as his followers' houses, too. Tok Janggut immediately replied by laying a siege on Pasir Puteh. This time, luck was on Britains' side, Tok Janggut was killed in the gruesome battle near Kampung Pupuh. His dead body was exhibited throughout Kota Bharu and Pasir Puteh and was hung for several days in front of the Kelantan Royal Palace. Tok Janggut's body was buried in Pasir Pekan afterwards, marking the very end of the rebellion against British rule in Kelantan.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Space officials in Russia and the United States were on Thursday tracking hundreds of pieces of debris that were spewed into space when a U.S. satellite collided with a defunct Russian military satellite.

The crash, which Russian officials said took place on Tuesday at about 1700 GMT (12:00 p.m. EST) above northern Siberia, is the first publicly known satellite collision and has raised concerns about the safety of the manned International Space Station.

The collision happened in an orbit heavily used by satellites and other spacecraft and the U.S. Strategic Command, the arm of the Pentagon that handles space, said countries might have to maneuver their craft to avoid the debris.

"The collision of these two space apparatuses happened by chance and these two apparatuses have been destroyed," Major-General Alexander Yakushin, first deputy commander of Russia's Space Forces, told Reuters.

"The fragments pose no danger whatsoever to Russian space objects," he said. When asked if the debris posed a danger to other nations' space craft, he said: "As for foreign ones, it is not for me say as it is not in my competency."

The collision between the Iridium Satellite LLC-operated satellite and the Russian Cosmos-2251 military satellite occurred at about 485 miles above the Russian Arctic.

That is an altitude used by satellites that monitor weather, relay communications and perform scientific observations.

"It's a very important orbit for a lot of satellites," said Air Force Colonel Les Kodlick from the U.S. Strategic Command. "We believe it's the first time that two satellites have collided in orbit."

The U.S. Joint Space Operations Center was tracking 500 to 600 new pieces of debris, some as small as 4 inches across, in addition to the 18,000 or so other man-made objects it previously catalogued in space, he said.

Russian Space Forces said it was monitoring debris that was spread over altitudes between 500 km (310 miles) and 1300 km (807 miles) above earth.

The priority is guarding the International Space Station, which orbits at 220 miles, substantially below the collision altitude. One Russian and two U.S. astronauts are currently aboard the station.

SPACE STATION

The orbit of the ISS can be changed by controllers from Earth but even a tiny piece of debris can cause significant damage to the space station as it travels at 8 km per second.

"If there is any threat to the ISS then there will be an announcement," one Russian space official said. Another said there was little immediate threat to the station.

The crash has underlined concerns about how crowded the orbit paths around the planet have become in recent decades.But experts said the chances of such a collision are extremely low and added that leading space powers have been racing to develop new ways to destroy orbiting objects.

"The orbital altitude where the collision took place is among the most crowded in low Earth orbit," Texas-based security consultancy Stratfor said in a research note.

"But statistically speaking, the enormous scale of space makes the chance that this kind of direct collision would occur completely by accident infinitesimal," it said.

The collision occurred in a polar orbit not far from that of a defunct Chinese weather satellite shot apart by a ground-based ballistic missile in a Chinese weapons test in January 2007.

The United States used a missile to blow apart a tank of toxic fuel on a defective U.S. spy satellite last February.

There was no indication that Tuesday's collision was intentional on the part of anyone, said a U.S. government source who asked not to be named.

The European Union said on Thursday leading nations should adopt a code of conduct for civil and military activities in space.

AMERICAN SHORTHAIR

The American Shorthair (ASH) cat is descended from European cats brought to North America with the early European settlers who carried cats on their boats to hunt ship’s rats. These working cats flourished on pioneers’ farms and evolved to establish themselves as North America’s shorthaired cats. The ASH evolved into a versatile and hardy breed with a short dense coat to protect them against the cold winter. The hunting skills of these Shorthairs allowed them to move between households, farm and feral life without going hungry. Selective breeding was started to preserve these beautiful cats and preserve the uniqueness of the North American Shorthair. In 1906 the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) officially recognized this breed which was known as the Domestic Shorthair. The cat breed was renamed the American Shorthair in 1966 to reflect its American heritage and is one of the top ten most popular breeds registered by the CFA.

Characteristics
The American Shorthair is a medium to large sized cat breed with a beautiful appearance. Male Shorthairs weigh from 11 to 15 pounds and females from 8 to 12 pounds. American Shorthairs have a less rounded face than their European counterparts. The ASH is a working cat with a muscular body that exhibits power and agility. Kittens take 3 or 4 years to mature into adults. The body is slightly longer than tall with a large head that is slightly longer than wide. The bright, clear eyes are large and wide, spaced fairly far apart and are shaped like half an almond cut lengthwise. The coat is short, thick, even and hard in texture and dense enough to protect the cat from inclement weather and brambles.

Temperament
American Shorthairs are intelligent with an even and pleasant temperament that makes this cat a great family pet. The ASH can adapt well to existing pets and children. This easy going and affectionate cat is people oriented but doesn’t need constant attention. The ASH likes being by your side but doesn’t have to be in your lap. The ASH is sociable and easily trained but will enjoy playing alone. This is a sedate cat which enjoys climbing up onto high places. Fortunately they can be easily trained not to climb where they shouldn’t and to use the scratching post instead of furniture. The ASH has an unusual feature of talking without making any noise. Maybe this is leftover from their hunting days, but the ASH will frequently walk up to its human and open its mouth in a silent meow to communicate. You know what an ASH is saying by its facial expressions.

Cat Care
American Shorthairs are very healthy and can live from 15 to 20 years. The short thick coat is easy to groom and a once per week combing with a steel comb keeps the coat neat and regular stroking with the hand or a silk cloth will give the coat a healthy sheen. The ASH will require daily combing during the spring and fall shedding seasons to limit the amount of cat hair that is deposited around your house.

JAWAPAN: Menyambut Valentine Day (Hari Kekasih) hukumnya haram. Allah s.w.t. berfirman yang bermaksud, “Dan janganlah kamu menghampiri zina sesungguhnya zina itu adalah satu perbuatan keji dan satu jalan yang jahat.’’ (al-Isra: 32)

Mafhumnya, Allah s.w.t. tidak mengharamkan zina semata-mata malahan apa-apa yang boleh membawa kepada zina juga hukumnya haram.

Apa yang jelas dalam sambutan Valentine Day ialah pergaulan bebas di antara lelaki dan perempuan. Justeru, bagi menzahirkan rasa cinta, pelbagai aktiviti dilakukan yang jelas haram dan bertentangan dengan Islam. Apa yang pasti ialah pasangan kekasih akan mengadakan pertemuan demi melahirkan perasaan cinta. Pada waktu itu yang ketiga ialah syaitan yang menghasut mereka supaya melakukan perkara-perkara terkutuk.

Nabi telah menegah kita daripada meniru budaya Yahudi dan Nasrani dengan sabdanya yang bermaksud, “Nescaya kamu akan turut jejak langkah mereka (Yahudi dan Nasrani ) sejengkal demi sejengkal, sehasta demi sehasta sehingga kamu akan turuti mereka walaupun mereka masuk ke dalam lubang biawak. Menyambut Valentine Day adalah bertentangan dengan syiar dan norma-norma budaya masyarakat Islam Melayu. Malah budaya itu diimport dari Eropah yang menghalalkan perhubungan lelaki dan perempuan atas dasar suka sama suka.

Perlu difahami bahawa Islam bukan satu agama yang rigid atau ekstrem tetapi Islam bermatlamat membawa kesejahteraan demi memelihara nama baik umat Islam supaya menjadi umat contoh.

2. Apakah cara atau kaedah untuk menyedarkan anak perempuan saya yang terlibat dalam Black Metal agar kembali mematuhi perintah Allah. Lebih sukar lagi, suami saya pula tidak mahu membantu kerana, katanya, anak kami sudah besar. Biarlah dia pilih jalan sendiri. Anak saya ini sebelum ini bernikah tanpa pengetahuan kami di negara jiran selepas terpengaruh dengan ajaran Black Metal semasa menuntut di UIA.

JAWAPAN: Mendidik anak-anak perlukan kesabaran yang berpanjangan apatah lagi apabila mendidik anak yang telah dewasa. Sudah semestinya ia perlukan teknik dan kaedah yang berkesan supaya didikan tersebut benar-benar berhasil.

Cara menasihati anak perempuan yang terlibat dengan Black Metal, pertamanya kita perlu mengajak mereka kepada beriman kepada Allah s.w.t., mencintai Allah dan Rasul-Nya serta kembali mengamalkan segala suruhan Allah.

Mendidik atau menjaga anak yang bermasalah adalah seperti menjaga orang yang berpenyakit kronik. Sudah pasti ia memerlukan rawatan yang rapi.

Jangan dibuang mereka, jangan dipulau, jangan diungkit dan tunjukkan kasih sayang. Mungkin gadis itu terlibat kerana tidak ada perhatian daripada ibu bapa. Dalam hal ini ibu bapa perlu banyak berkorban dan mendampingkan diri dengan anak-anak. Ibu bapa perlu merancang aktiviti-aktiviti yang boleh mengisi masa lapang anak-anak supaya mereka tidak rasa bosan dan membuang masa di rumah. Ibu bapa perlu kreatif dalam mendekati dan memenangi jiwa anak-anak

Jangan lupa banyakkan solat hajat dan berdoa untuk keselamatan dan kesejahteraan mereka. Banyakkan membaca doa yang berikut: “Wahai Tuhan, berilah kami beroleh daripada isteri-isteri dan zuriat keturunan kami, perkara-perkara yang menyukakan hati kami melihatnya dan jadikanlah kami imam (pemimpin) ikutan bagi orang-orang yang bertakwa.” (al-Furqan: 74)

3. Apakah cara terbaik untuk kita memohon maaf kepada ibu bapa selepas kita bertengkar dengan mereka sehingga mengguris perasaan terutama ibu sedangkan kita tidak berniat sedemikian?

JAWAPAN: Wajib bersegera memohon maaf daripada ibu bapa apabila kita berdosa kepada mereka. Firman Allah dalam surah al-Israk, “Dan Tuhanmu telah menetapkan janganlah kamu menyembah selain Allah dan hendaklah kamu berbuat baik kepada kedua-dua ibu bapa... dan janganlah kami katakan kepada kedua-dua mereka perkataan ‘ah’.” (al-Israk: 23)

Jika ada sesuatu perkara yang ingin dijelaskan, cari masa dan ketika yang sesuai dengan menggunakan bahasa yang tidak menyinggung perasaan mereka. Kita perlu risau jika kita atau mereka meninggal dunia ketika kita tidak sempat memohon ampun maaf daripada mereka.

Cara terbaik untuk meminta maaf ialah dengan mengakui kesalahan kita dan memohon maaf dengan ikhlas. Kita perlu menghormati ibu bapa dalam perbualan dengan tidak mengangkat suara atau tidak mendahului mereka dalam sesuatu perkara sebelum meminta izin. Kita juga hendaklah sentiasa mendoakan kesejahteraan mereka di dunia mahupun di akhirat.

ARAPAIMA GIGAS...FRESHWATER MONSTER

The arapaima, pirarucu, or paiche (Arapaima gigas) is a South American tropical freshwater fish. It is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world.

Anatomy and morphology

Arapaima can reach lengths of more than 2 m (6.6 ft), in some exceptional cases even more than 2.5 m (8.2 ft) and over 100 kg (220 lbs). The often cited maximum length of 4.5 m (14.8 ft) comes from a single second-hand-report from the first half of the ninteenth century, and is not an actual fact. The maximum-cited weight for the species is 200 kg (440 lbs). The Arapaima the largest freshwater fish in South America. As one of the most sought after food fish species in South America, it is often captured primarily by handheld nets for export, by spearfishing for local consumption, and, consequently, large arapaima of more than 2 m are seldom found in the wild today. In the Camden aquarium in Camden, New Jersey, arapaimas are on exhibit along with the Arowanas and other species.

Ecology

The diet of the arapaima consists of fish and other small animals, including birds. The fish is an air-breather, using its swim bladder, which is rich in blood vessels and opens into the fish's mouth[1], an advantage in oxygen-deprived water that is often found in the Amazon River. This fish is therefore able to survive extensive drought periods by gulping air and burrowing in the mud or sand of the swamps.

Reproduction

Due to the geographic range that arapaima inhabit, the animal's life cycle is greatly affected by the seasonal flooding that occurs. The arapaima lays its eggs during the months of February, March, and April when the water levels are low. They build a nest approximately 50 cm wide and 15 cm deep, usually in sandy bottomed areas. As the water rises the eggs hatch and the offspring have the flood season to prosper, during the months of May to August. Therefore, the yearly spawning is regulated seasonally. The arapaima is a mouthbrooder, meaning it keeps its young in its mouth until they are older.

Evolutionary history

Fossils of arapaima or a very similar species have been found in the Miocene Villavieja Formation of Colombia.

Importance to humans

The arapaima is hunted and utilized in many ways by local human populations. Arapaima are harpooned or caught in large nets and the meat is said to be delicious. Since the arapaima needs to swim up to breathe air, traditional arapaima fishers often catch them by first clubbing them and then harpooning them dead. One individual can yield as much as 70 kg of meat.
The arapaima has also been introduced for fishing in Thailand and Malaysia. Fishing for this species in Thailand can be done at two lakes, Bung Sam Ran and It Lake Monsters, it is common to see Arapaima over 50kg landed and then released.
Special care is needed when dealing with these fish as although they are large they are also hard to deal with, with catch and release after the fish is landed it must be held in a shallow pen/bed for about 3 hours, as this species goes into shock so a careful watch must be kept to make sure that it is coming up for air about every 15 min, if not then the fish can be gently lifted so that its head comes out of the water, when this happens they have a reflex action to breathe.
It is also considered an aquarium fish, although it obviously requires a large tank and ample resources. This animal also appears in the pet trade, although to keep an arapaima correctly requires a large tank and can prove quite difficult.
The tongue of this fish is thought to have medicinal qualities in South America. It is dried and combined with guarana bark, which is grated and mixed into water. Doses of this are given to kill intestinal worms. In addition, the arapaima's bony tongue is often used to scrape cylinders of dried guarana, an ingredient in some beverages, and the bony scales are used as nail files.

In popular culture

In the Nintendo GameCube videogame Animal Crossing and subsequent sequels, the Arapaima is the rarest catch.
In the PC game The Amazon Trail II the Arapaima (called Pirarucu in the game)sometimes appears while spearfishing it is one of the largest fish in the game, and only appears once in any one fishing session.
The Arapaima can also be found in the Nokia NGage title Hooked On: Creatures of the Deep at the games Thailand resort Top Cats
In the Street Fighter II games, a large Arapaima is seen hanging in the background of Blanka's stage in Brazil, along with an anaconda and the Amazon River.
In the Petz games on Wii & PS2 Catz & Dogz 2, the Arapaima is found in Gongoro Peak.There is also a Golden Arapaima, which is one of the rarest catches.

Poison Comet - Lulin is on the way to the earth

A new comet is swinging around the sun, and soon it will be more visible to stargazers, perhaps even with the naked eye. Both professional and amateur astronomers have been tracking this unusual comet, named Comet Lulin. Thanks to amateur astronomer Gregg Ruppel, who lives in the St. Louis, Missouri area for sharing images he has acquired of Comet Lulin. Gregg took the image above on January 11, 2009. The most interesting characteristic of this comet is its orbit. Lulin is actually moving in the opposite direction as the planets, so its apparent velocity will be quite fast. Estimates are it will be moving about 5 degrees a day across the sky, so when viewed with a telescope or binoculars, you may be able to see the comet's apparent motion against the background stars. This is quite unusual! Today, January 14, the comet is at perihelion, closest to the sun. As it moves to its closest approach to Earth on February 24, Lulin is expected to brighten to naked-eye visibility in rural areas, (at best about magnitude 5 or 6) and will be observable low in the sky in an east-southeast direction before dawn.

The comet will pass 0.41 Astronomical Units from earth at its closest distance to Earth, about 14.5 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon. It has a parabolic trajectory, which means it may have never come this way before –this may be its first visit to the inner solar system
Lulin was jointly discovered by Asian astronomers in July of 2007. Quanzhi Ye from China first saw the comet on images obtained by Chi-Sheng Lin from Taiwan, at the Lu-lin Observatory.
The discovery of Comet Lulin (also known as C/2227 2007 N3) was part of the Lulin Sky Survey project to explore the various populations of small bodies in the solar system, especially objects that could be a hazard to the Earth.

CUTI-CUTI MALAYSIA - PULAU TIOMAN

Tioman Island (locally known as Pulau Tioman) is a small island located 32 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang, and is some 39 km long and 12 km wide. It has eight main villages, the largest and most populous being Kampung Tekek in the north. The densely forested island is sparsely inhabited, and is surrounded by numerous coral reefs, making it a popular scuba diving spot. There are also a lot of resorts and chalets around the island.
Its beaches were depicted in the 1958 movie, South Pacific as Bali Hai. In the 1970s, TIME Magazine selected Tioman as one of the world's most beautiful islands.
Apart from its diverse marine life, the inland rainforest area, encompassing approximately 12,383 hectares, in Tioman is a strictly enforced nature reserve. There are several protected species of mammals on the island, including the Binturong, Long-tailed Macaque, Slow Loris, Black Giant Squirrel, Red Giant Flying Squirrel, Mouse deer, Brush-tailed Porcupine, and Common Palm Civet, from a total of 45 species of mammals and 138 species of birds, including the majestic Frigatebird. Moreover, Tioman has species that are endemic to its shores. The soft-shelled turtle and the Tioman walking catfish are both unique and can be seen on rainforest walks.
The island is served by ferries from the Malaysian mainland, and a propeller plane service by Berjaya Air from the Seletar Airport in Singapore and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Kuala Lumpur.

History

Tioman has been used for thousands of years by fishermen as an important navigation point and a source of fresh water and wood. During the past thousand years, it has played host to Chinese, Arab, and European trading ships, and often porcelain shards can be found on beaches around the island.
In more recent history, Tioman played host to both the British and the Japanese during the Second World War, and the waters around the island are littered with war remains (including HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of Wales).

Legend

According to legend, Tioman Island is the resting place of a beautiful dragon princess. Whilst flying from China to visit her prince in Singapore, this beautiful maiden stopped to seek solace in the crystal-clear waters of the South China Sea. Enraptured by the charms of the place, she decided to discontinue her journey. By taking the form of an island, she pledged to offer shelter and comfort to passing travelers.

FREQUENCY CANNON merupakan sebuah rock band yang dianggotai oleh 4 orang pemuzik handalan yang cukup bertenaga di atas pentas! Band ini mula ditubuhkan pada tahun 1996 apabila Kua Chee baru-baru cuba bermain muzik bersama rakan-rakan sekolahnya. Band ini kemudian 'berhenti' sebentar kerana kebanyakan ahlinya mahu menumpukan perhatian terhadap pelajaran di luar negara. Lineup hari ini telah ditubuhkan dalam tahun 2000.

Pada tahun 2005, Frequency Cannon telah mengambil bahagian dalam pertandingan ASTRO's HITZ.TV BLASTOFF dan telah dijulang sebagai JUARA. Mengambil peluang sebagai juara, banyak peluang muncul untuk mereka. Mereka menyusun langkah lebih jauh dan turut mengambil bahagian dalam festival muzik rock: Rock The World. Band yang cukup versatil ini mula merakamkan demo pertama mereka di dalam bilik tidur Kua Chee (vokalis) pada tahun 200 dan merakamkan DIY EP secara serius pada bulan Februari dan Mac 2004.

Frequency Cannon kini dianggotai oleh Kua Chee (vokal), Azril Dino (dram), Azrul (bass) dan Yuri (gitar). Mereka punya banyak pengalaman beraksi di atas pentas dan cukup dikagumi oleh pengikut muzik mereka!

KUMPULAN ni ditubuhkan pada tahun 2004 oleh Herri dan Zabil. Berinspirasikan band-band dari UK band yang baru setahun jagung ni telah merakamkan EP pertama mereka. Salah satu daripada mereka yang telah tertarik dengan potensi yang dimiliki oleh Bittersweet adalah Aidil dari band Couple. Yakin dengan kemampuan diorang Aidil telah menjemput Bittersweet untuk perform di release party EP terbaru Couple pada tahun 2004.

Bukan saja persembahan dan muzik mereka mendapat perhatian ramai hari tu, Bittersweet juga merupakan antara band yang pertama ahli kumpulannya memakai pakaian yang hampir sama, a la satu uniform.
Tahun 2004 juga menyaksikan kelahiran EP kedua diorang, Night Morning Tales. EP tersebut semakin melonjakkan nama Bittersweet menjadi mereka salah satu band baru yang paling top tahun tu.

Bulan June 2006, Bittersweet telah mengeluarkan satu single, A Perfect Match yang telah memertabatkan lagi profil Bittersweet bila lagu tersebut menjadi mereka sebagai band indie pertama dari Ipoh yang mendapat tempat distesen-stesen radio arus perdana seperti Hitz.FM dan Mix FM.

Bulan Disember tahun yang sama, Bittersweet telah mengeluarkan album sulung mereka yang juga berjudul A Perfect Match. Dalam mempromosikan album ini, Bittersweet telah menjelajah tujuh negeri untuk membuat persembahan. Album tersebut turut memberikan Bittersweet satu lagi lagu hit, Kucing Hitam.

TWKUA - They Will Kill Us All

Ditubuhkan pada penghujung tahun 2003, TWKUA merupakan sebuah projek muzikal yang diterajui oleh gitaris, David dan Eddie yang meraikan kesungguhan mereka untuk muzik rock indie dan noise pop. Duo kreatif ini mula menulis lagu dan mencari ahli-ahli lain, akhirnya memilih amir sebagai pemain bass dan pemain-pemain dram dan keyboard jemputan.

Mereka kemudian bertemu dengan vokalis yang betul-betul menepati kriteria yang dikehendaki dan Amir mengambil tempat tersebut. Setelah banyak latihan dilakukan, band ini telah mendapat jemputan untuk membuat persembahan debut secara LIVE di kaca televisyen (Latte@8), gig-gig, persembahan-persembahan amal dan membuat persembahan pembukaan untuk gig K.L.H.C Revival di Hard Rock Café, Kuala Lumpur.

TWKUA mengambil Ishan sebagai pemain dram tetap dan kemudian melakukan persembahan di Substation, Singapore (RadioClash2), No Black Tie, Kuala Lumpur (Motion Picture Soundtrack) Crossborders@Laundry dan Rock The World 7, Baybeats 2006 – sebelum merakamkan demo-demo di studio.

Mereka masih lagi dalam pembikinan album yang dijangka akan keluar pada tahun ini. TWKUA masih lagi dalam eksperimentasi bunyi dan muzik mereka dan berjuang habis-habisan untuk rock indie!

Mijiero menubuhkan MAXIMUS setelah puas bersama dengan band lamanya iaitu Flop Poppy. Mijiero ingin memperjuangkan muzik serta haluan muziknya sendiri. Mijiero memulakan langkah dengan mencari pemuzik-pemuzik baru yang berbakat.

MAXIMUS dibarisi oleh Zulkarnain (Apex) yang juga merupakan bekas penyanyi kumpulan The Muffins) selaku penyanyi utama, Mijiero, juga merupakan gitaris utama kumpulan Flop Poppy sebagai penyanyi kedua dan juga merupakan gitaris kedua. E-jal sebagai gitaris utama, Faizal (bekas pemain bass kumpulan Arjuna) selaku pemain bass dan uga Zakk (programmer untuk kumpulan Lurks) selaku pemain drum.

MAXIMUS memperjuangkan muzik Rock & Pop. Mereka juga menghasilkan lagu serta produksinya yang dilakukan 100% oleh MAXIMUS sendiri. Baik dari segi penghasilan lagu rakaman sehinggalah ke adunan muzik, semuanya dilakukan oleh MAXIMUS sendiri.

Pengaruh muzik MAXIMUS adalah muzik-muzik dari era 70an hinggalah ke muzik moden (sekaranglah). Mereka juga terbuka untuk memainkan apa saja jenis muzik, ini kerana mereka tidak mahu terikat dengan mana-mana konsep muzik.

LAGI satu band dari Ipoh yang meneruskan legasi bunyi indie Ipoh-style, Harmacy telah ditubuhkan pada tahun 2000 oleh Muney.
Seperti Muck, muzik Harmacy diinspirasikan oleh band-band seperti Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Eric's Trip, The Pixies, Sebadoh dan Motorpsycho.

Rakaman pertama diorang, It’s All Over Now, telah dimuatkan didalam album kompilasi Kopi Sechewen 3 dan ini telah diikuti dengan EP pertama mereka, Here To Here yang telah dikeluarkan pada tahun 2004.

EP ini telah mendapat ulasan yang positif bukan saja dari pengikut-pengikut muzik indie, tapi juga oleh media arus perdana seperti The Malay Mail dan Berita Harian.

Here To Here telah dikuti dengan EP kedua mereka, Million Reasons pada tahun 2006. Salah satu lagu dari EP tersebut, Riuh, telah melonjakkan nama Harmacy apabila ianya telah dimuatkan didalam album soundtrack Kami dan mendapat tempat di corong radio terutamanya di XFM.

Toyger Breeds

The Toyger cat is a medium sized, short haired domestic cat reminescent of a toy tiger. Designed with a modern city life with humans in mind, it is an intellegent and willing companion animal, active and highly trainable. Color and markings are that of a satin toy while type suggests a big cat long bodied and tailed, large boned and muscular, round ears, large chin-leading muzzle with broad nose tip. This cat will one day resemble a tiny, shiny toy tiger on leash or playing with the kids.

The Toyger is a breed of striped domestic cat, The Toyger is descended from Bengal cat stock crossed with domestic cats. The aim of this cross was to produce a striped 'toy tiger'. It was recognised for 'Registration only' by The International Cat Association in the early 1990s. There are several breeders in the United States and one breeder in the UK working to develop the breed. The toyger is a breed of cat, the result of breeding domestic shorthaired tabbies (beginning in the 1980s) to make them resemble the 'toy tiger' as its striped coat is reminiscent of the tiger's. The breed's creator, Judy Sudgen, has stated that the breed was developed in order to inspire people to care about the conservation of tigers in the wild. It was recognized for 'Registration only' by The International Cat Association in the early 1990s, and in 2007 its status was upgraded to allow the breed full Championship status. There are several breeders in the United States, three breeders in the UK, and one in Australia working to develop the breed.

The breed began development in 1980 when Judy Sudgen, a breeder looking to clarify the mackerel markings in tabbies, noticed distinctive markings in two of her cats. These markings, occurring on the head, an area normally devoid of distinct pattern, first inspired the idea of a tiger-like tabby. After importing a tom from the streets of India with noticeable head markings, the quest to develop tiger-like, circular face markings in the cats began. The introduction of the Bengal breed into the gene pool was a move on Sudgen's part to produce a "big cat body"

Although the current "version" of the cat remains a far cry from a tiger in appearance, the appropriate coloring and bold striations have been largely developed. With the aid of computer imaging, breeders have been able to develop a prospective model for the desired, final look of the Toyger breed. By 2010, Breeders hope to have achieved rounded ears, and a wider nosebridge. Smaller eyes, whitened chest and stomach markings, and a cheek ruff are also breed possibilities for the future.

The Toyger is the result of a cross between a striped DSH (Domestic Short Hair) and a STB (Standard Bengal Tabby) This resulted in a stripped Cat which after many years of hard work resembles a 'mini Tiger'.

The Toyger is a breed in development. Recognized by TICA for Registration Only early in the 1990's, Preliminary New Breed in 2000 and lovely even now, the goals for the breed are long term and the prospect even more exciting! Several of the features proposed have never before been recognized as possible in a domestic cat. Progress is slow but steady in all areas from companionability to appearance. The Toyger will be showing in its new TICA status of Advanced New Breed May 2006. Toyger's are of medium size and have pelt and glitter like the Bengal. Today's Toyger's have very good temperaments and are quiet robust and healthy Cats.

The ideal colouring is an orange/tan background with dark stripes like that of a Tiger. The stripes are actually long rosettes and should not be uniform like a mackerel pattern but more like long random individual stripes. The coat must be striped with no spotting. The ears small and rounded, good solid bone structure and overall balance.

The following is adapted from the 2003 submitted TICA Breed Standard for the Toyger:

Head Shape: Medium-sized, with a dominant deep, skewed, cylindrical muzzle on an oval head.
Ears: Small and round. Wide set toward the back of the head and oriented on a 45 degree line towards the center of the eyes. Short but thickly furred temples and ears are preferred. Lynx tipping is undesirable.
Eyes: Medium, almond-shaped. Set wide apart, back into face, and on a slight bias toward the base of the ear. Rich deep color preferred.
Muzzle: Very well defined, long, broad and deep with rounded muscular contours. Full face view suggests an inverted heart shape. The front muzzle line/plane is skewed forward to produce a more frontal view of nose leather, mouth, and chin than in most small felines.
Nose: Muscular, long, broad, and rounded, widening toward the end to at least as wide as the space between the eyes.
Torso: Medium to deep, long and muscular with rounded contours; strong and robust but not blocky.
Legs and Feet: Medium length such that the space between the ground and the body is roughly equal to the depth of the torso. Boning is very large.
Tail: Very long and not thick. Taper is slight with blunt, rounded tip. Fur is dense and short.
Musculature: Very young and athletic looking, especially in young males.
Coat Length: Coat is uniformly short. Fur may be longer in the temple jowl/ruff; the suggestion of more of a ruff is preferred.
Color: Markings shall be virtually black to brown to even tan. Very dark markings are preferred. A bright pumpkin ground color with very dark markings is preferred. Whited ground color shall be as uniformly light to virtually white as possible.
Markings Pattern: Mackerel tabby. The markings to the ground pattern contrast must be extreme and distinct, giving a clear, sharply edged pattern.
Body Markings: Body stripes shall generally be vertically aligned with encircling markings on neck, legs, and tail. Bold, braided, and non-uniform stripes are preferred. Belly and inside of legs must be marked. Paw pads and tail tip must be black.
Head: Facial stripes and markings shall be circularly aligned around the face. Traditional tabby markings moving radially away from the face for any distance are undesirable. Lighter to virtually white 'thumb marks' on the back of the ears are desirable. Natural 'make-up' is important: eyes must have black 'mascara' markings and whited spectacles, desirable for mouth to have black lipstick markings.
They are Loving, intellegent, laid-back but active and alert. Highly trainable. Gets along well with other animals and children. Some lines like other cats better than other lines at this time. Some lines are noisy at this time. The Toyger is an ongoing venture with each generation improving on the last to obtain the objective of a beautiful domestic cat with the look of the majestic wild Tiger.

Himalayan Breeds

he Himalayan, also called colourpoint Persian, is a breed of cat with extremely long, fluffy fur, and the blue eyes and the points of a Siamese. Himalayan is the American term, while in Europe they are referred to as colourpoint Persians. They were bred from Siamese (for the markings) and Persians (for coat-length and temperament), and share characteristics of both breeds.

The body of a Himalayan is white or cream, but the points come in many different colors: blue, brown, lilac, chocolate, flame, red and cream. The points can also be tabby or tortoiseshell-patterned. Both the chocolate and lilac point Himalayan are the most difficult to produce. These color traits are autosomal recessive, meaning both parents must possess the gene in order for any offspring to express the trait.

These cats are sweet-tempered, intelligent and generally very social and good companions. Because of their heritage from the Siamese cats they tend to be more active than ordinary Persians. They are more prone to hairballs than other breeds. Due to the amount of inbreeding involved in breeding these cats commercially, they are prone to genetic deformities and have a greater likelihood for developing inherited problems such as joint problems, organ abnormalities, and particularly Polycystic kidney disease among other diseases.

Like many long-haired cats, Himalayans need to be brushed daily to keep their coats looking their best and healthiest. In addition, they may need their face wiped daily, depending on the cat. Bathing a Himalayan is also recommended by some breeders, to help reduce the amount of oil on the cat's fur and skin.

They were bred from Siamese (for the markings) and Persians (for coat-length and temperament), and share characteristics of both breeds. Himalayans are now considered the same breed for cat registries (CFA), (TICA) as the modern Persian show cat since they have the exact same conformation with a pointed coat.

Band Review - Cat In Love

Cats In Love - an unlikely name for an unlikely bunch of musicians. But surely you've heard of how In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida got its title. Likewise, CIL was named by accident, a fortunate one at that - then bass player Rizal, kept hearing the chorus to its song Can't See Love as Cats In Love. Well, that's another one to laugh over a pint or three. Originally, the band had Joseph (and Markiza, for awhile) tickling the ivories, Rizal keeping the bottom end thumping, Lohan spewing some words and wresting with the guitar and Rudy keeping the groove solid. But like every other story about hopes and dreams, nothing quite turns out as planned. And once the revolving door of musicians spun once again, Reuben and Zul found themselves in the fray, anchoring down the rhythm section with a new sound and feel. Conceptually, CIL makes no bones of its world domination ambitions (yeah, right!) but the band has planned its assault, not by attempting to reinvent the wheel, but by being honest to itself and its influences. Speaking of influences, this ranges from Blind Boy Fuller and Mahler to Calexico and Rage Against The Machine and everything in between, of course. So expect to hear bits and pieces of everything you've come to know of popular music when you attend a show by the band or listen to its music. Trust us, you'll have no paws for regret

Redang Island, locally known as Pulau Redang or just "Redang" is one of the largest islands off the east coast of Malaysia. It is a popular holiday island for Malaysians, most of whom come on package deals to one of the resorts. Redang is one of nine islands, which form a marine park, and which offer snorkeling and diving opportunities. Access is from Merang or Kuala Terengganu on boats operated by the resorts; there is also a small airport with services operated by Berjaya Air from Singapore (Seletar Airport) and Kuala Lumpur (Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport).
The island is also an important conservation site for sea turtles. Previously, the indiscriminate economic exploitation of turtle eggs had caused fewer turtles returning to nest on the island. This has led the Terengganu state government to set up the Koperasi Setiajaya Pulau Redang in 1989, a cooperative aiming to develop and manage socio-economic programmes that could improve the livelihood of Pulau Redang locals without endangering its natural resources.[citation needed]
The waters around Pulau Redang also contain two historic shipwrecks: HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse. The ships were sunk here at the start of World War II, setting the stage for the Japanese occupation of Malaya.
The Pulau Redang archipelago comprises Pulau Redang, Pulau Lima, Pulau Paku Besar, Pulau Paku Kecil, Pulau Kerengga Kecil, Pulau Kerengga Besar, Pulau Ekor Tebu, Pulau Ling and Pulau Pinang. Pulau Redang is the biggest of all the islands in the Marine Park, measuring about 7 km long and 6 km wide. It's highest peak is Bukit Besar at 359 metres above sea level. The boundary of the Pulau Redang Marine Park is established by a line linking all points 2 nautical miles (3.7 km) from the shores of Pulau Redang, Pulau Lima, Pulau Ekor Tebu and Pulau Pinang. The other nearby islands of Pulau Perhentian Besar, Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Pulau Lang Tengah, Pulau Kapas and Pulau Susu Dara are also gazetted and protected as Marine Parks. Today, only the bigger islands like Redang, Lang Tengah, Perhentian and Kapas have resort facilities for visitors. The management of Marine Parks primarily involves protection of the sensitive marine and terrestrial ecosystems by controlling the impact from human activities. These include waste & pollution management and conservation of coral reefs and terrestrial habitats.
The 2000 film, Summer Holiday was filmed on the Laguna Redang resort, and a replica of the tea house now serves as the resort's gift shop.

Gerhana Skacinta Is Back!!

A Kuala Lumpur based Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae & Dub band, Gerhana Skacinta (GSC/Gerhana) emerged from the ska revival scene of Malaysia in the late 1990s. While third-wave ska bred new faces and new categories; ska-punk, ska-pop, ska-core, Gerhana Skacinta stayed the traditional path, remaining faithful to a kind of rootsy purity. This purity wasn't based on snottiness or exclusivity, everyone, by all means, is invited to Gerhana Skacintas party but based on a determination that some music is timeless.

Formed by ska enthusiast, Edy King Django Jr, the very first line up are; Rejab + Trombone, Widy + Main Vocal, Bakri + Drum, Jalud + E-Bass & Upright Bass, Didi + Guitar, Fairus + Piano & Organ and Edy himself as Trumpeter & Vocal.

Gerhana Skacinta was Edy's spontaneous idea who hardly thinking for the name of his blue beat band. The idea was to have a classic sound for it. First gig they played was Ska Clinic held at the Artist Club, Jalan Ampang. Offered about a week before the gig and knowing that the time was running out, Edy contacted few friends desperately to get the full line up.

The first line-up of Gerhana Skacinta included Bijan + Keyboard, Acong + bass, Rudy + Drum and Chiwok + 2nd Trombone plus the rest that have been mentioned above. About half a year later, Rudy and Bijan leave the band to further studies. Their position was replaced by Olie, the ex-member of Republic of Brickfields, Carburator Dung and Silent Death. It is an honour for Edy to have Olie in his band since he is one of the pioneer musician in Malaysian underground music scene. Soon as he joined the band, Olie introduced Edy to young and talented Fairus who is a free lance musician graduated from ITM and currently work in MPPJ, to replaced Bijan.Then, Pian who is a friend to Edy joined Gerhana Skacinta casually to fulfill the bands need as a percussionist.

Within a short period of time, Gerhana Skacinta built their own empire and countless fans demanding them to record an album. They have been offered by some record labels, small and big, to sign a contract.However, Edy's strategy was to participated in gigs as much as possible in order to build his own empire of followers, besides to improve their skills in performing lives.

In early 2001, Mr Tang offered Gerhana Skacinta to record a compilation album Tribute to Sweet Charity, with other established band such as Koffin Kanser, Flop Poppy, Butterfingers and others. Edy accepted the challenge thinking that, the time has come and this could be one of a way to maximise the promotion for the band, importantly the music to the local industry and to the wider scope. They covered the song Jangan Tunggu Lama Lama, it was a hit and had a big radio air played.

In Mac 2002, Gerhana Skacinta signed up with Clockwork Records and ready to issued their first single album called Skali Skale, after gaining lots of invaluable experience of shows and winning uncountable crowds. Recorded in Synchrosound Studio, their first EP consists 5 tracks on the record. However, it was an unforgotten moment and a hard time for them since the recording process was delayed when Edy & Widy's mother and Olie's father past away a month before.

Olie, Acong ,Pian and Ciwok left Gerhana Skacinta for some reason in mid 2002. Drum position was replaced by Bakri, an experienced musician who played with few bands with big names such as OAG, Flop Poppy, Koffin Kanser and Republic of Brickfields. Instead of having 2 trombones, the band remained with one powerful blower, Rejab. Lucky Edy to have him as the member of the band who's also Edy's informal trumpet teacher. Rejab work professionally as a musician at Petronas. Later on, came in rare Jalud, a friend of Fairus + a freelance musician. Jalud gives Edy a maximum satisfaction for being able to play the Up-right bass, which what Edy really wants from the very beginning he formed his band.

In the late 2002, Gerhana Skacinta came out with their full length album confidently with the new powerful line up. Boss Sounds 11 track was a skilled refinement of Gerhana Skacinta's formidable talents and appeal. As the band hones its blend of smooth Caribbean melodies and the bluebeat and rocksteady sounds pioneered by the Skatalites, Lord Kithcner and The Wailers in Kingston, Gerhana Skacinta confidently finds its own unmistakable traits, rediscovering pre-ska influences of 1950s' soul, R&B and jazz. Klue magazine placed the album on its best-of list in 2003, reviews praised the bands authenticity and class, and the swell of people in the know grew steadily through the bands hard work and dedication.

In a meanwhile, Gerhana Skacinta featured in lots of magazines such as KONSERT, ROTTW, KLUE, newspapers and interviewed by few radio stations.Impressively, there was no negative write up or bad comments on Gerhana Skacinta but praises.At one point, the band became a favourite band of YTL and WOW fm and a must band to perform for Christmas, National and New Years eve for few years in a row at Starhill and Sungei Wang.

In September of 2004, Gerhana Skacinta came out with their 2nd full album, The New Authentic,a self produced released that sold over 20,000 copies. With it, the ability of the band came to light when they was nominated for few categories in major award winning ceremonies and started to been given chances to be part of the performers for the prestige events. The hit single, Senyuman Ragamu feat. Radhio Oag, allowed the band to achieve mainstream commercial success. Hence, the musical ability and quality of play has further improved and the identity of the band has become clearer to the Malaysians. When most people are not familiar to the sound of ska, being able to hit the radio charts is a good sign for the band in order to introduce it to the entire country. And the truth is, it's the skinheads and the mods who brought Gerhana Skacinta to its place now. These people supported them with no doubts from the very beginning of their journey, and at the very first gig. Tahun 1997 adalah telah menyaksikan penubuhan dan kemunculan kumpulan ini. The Official (satu slanga jalanan yang bermaksud yang terbaik) yang digunakan oleh remaja-remaja di sekitar Johor Bahru telah dipilih sebagai nama kumpulan ini. Berkonsepkan oi! pada ketika itu, The Official yang ditubuhkan oleh Hasnol telah mengejutkan pendengar-pendengar muzik underground dengan kehadiran E.P pertama mereka berjudul JB Riot Skins pada tahun yang sama dibawah naungan Strange Culture Records(kini Clockwork Records). Dengan jualan yang melebihi 15,000 unit tanpa sebarang promo, The Official sekaligus menjadi sebuah kumpulan yang digilai pendengar-pendengar muzik underground Malaysia, Singapura, Indonesia dan juga negara-negara Eropah.
Jadual tempahan-tempahan gig ataupun show di dalam dan luar negara yang ketat tidak menghalang The Official untuk keluar dengan album pertama mereka berjudul Remember Yesterday yang telah di keluarkan pada tahun 1998 dibawah naungan label yang sama dan line-up yang sama (Magoo-vocalist, Hasnol-guitarist, Congo-bassist dan Bum-drummer). Dengan berkonsepkan Rock n Roll, sekali lagi The Official berjaya bertahkta di hati peminat-peminat mereka. Dengan sebuah album yang patriotik dimana mereka meluahkan cinta terhadap Malaysia. Sekali lagi tanpa sebarang promo, jualan album ini telah melebihi 13,000 unit dan kali ini The Official bukan sahaja diminati oleh peminat muzik underground malah pendengar muzik mainstream.

Selepas mengeluarkan Remember Yesterday, The Official terus aktif memenuhi undangan-undangan dan tempahan-tempahan gig ataupun show untuk beberapa tahun sehingga Hasnol, Congo dan Bum terpaksa menarik diri di atas pelanggaran jadual kerja. Tempat Hasnol telah diisi oleh Sarah dan bersama Azim (bassist), Rizal (drummer) dan Amir (lead guitarist), E.P kedua, A Tribute To JB Riot yang berkonsepkan Indie telah dikeluarkan di atas desakan peminat-peminat mereka pada tahun 2001 di bawah naungan Clockwork Records.

Pengunduran line-up berlaku sekali lagi dan The Official terpaksa mengundang rakan-rakan sessionist bagi memenuhi jadual undangan dan tempahan gig ataupun show yang semakin ketat. Album kedua (yang masih mengekalkan konsep Oi!, Rock n Roll dan Indie), Youll Never See The Last of Us telah dikeluarkan pada tahun 2003 di bawah naungan Clockwork Records. Magoo, Sarah dan Amir telah menggunakan khidmat Wari selaku pemain drum dan terus menjadi idola peminat-peminat mereka.

Undangan dan tempahan gig ataupun show The Official kini bukan hanya di seluruh semenanjung, Sabah, Sarawak dan Singapura sahaja, malah Indonesia, Jepun, England, Amerika Syarikat, Mexico, Brazil dan Jerman juga tidak henti-henti ingin menjemput The Official ke negara mereka untuk mengadakan tour namun komitmen kerja telah memperlahankan pergerakkan The Official dan akhirnya di atas desakan yang tidak henti-henti dari peminat-peminat mereka, kini (2006) The Official kembali lagi dengan album ketiga mereka Realiti Rock N Roll. Dengan berkonsepkan Rock N Roll dan Indie, The Official yang masih di bawah naungan Clockwork Records merealisasikan impian peminat-peminat mereka yang sekian lama ingin mendengar Magoo menyanyi di dalam Bahasa Melayu. Setelah pengunduran Sarah dan Amir di atas komitmen kerja, Hasnol kini kembali selaku guitarist, Magoo selaku vocalist, Hassan selaku bassist, Enol selaku Drummer dan Fendi selaku 2nd guitarist undangan.

What started as casual jamming sessions among four secondary school friends ended up forming a band, Bunkface, that is now widely known as a rising star in the local music scene. Although the band was formed in 2005, it was only in late 2006 when they caught the attention of the public through their participation in the hit TV show Blastoff. The year 2006 proved to be an exciting one for Bunkface. One of the highlights of their experience as fresh young musicians happened in March 2006 when Bunkface won first place for the Battle of the Bands competition in UNISEL organized by ROTTW. Winning the competition opened a door for Bunkface to be featured in a magazine for the very first time. Another sweet success came later that year when Bunkface snatched first place for the Battle of the Bands competition in Universiti Malaya. With that accomplishment, Demoplanet.tv approached Bunkface and offered to sponsor a video clip for the song Hyper Killer. After garnering a truckload of new experiences, Bunkface began writing more and more new songs. In December 2007, Bunkface released their first EP titled “Lesson of the Season” featuring 6 English tracks with a taste of pop-punk and alternative rock. Fast forward to the present, Bunkface have been featured in ROTTW and interviewed on air numerous times on XFresh FM and Fly FM. They were also interviewed and featured on Era Sentral and The Wknd Sessions. Their first hit song Silly Lily was number 1 on Hitz.fm’s Malaysian Top Ten for 8 weeks and number 1 on Fly.fm’s Campur Chart for 10 weeks. Bunkface’s current hit and first Malay single Situasi has stormed to number 1 on XFresh FM and steadily stayed at number 3 on Era FM for 3 weeks. The band has performed at high school proms, charity events, product launchings, dinner galas, and gigs covering venues all around the Klang Valley, Malacca, Perak, Penang, Johor, Sarawak and Singapore. Bunkface was the opening band for Fly FM 3rd Anniversary showcase, and their very first large scale gig proved to be a success. It is no wonder that their catchy tunes coupled with their addictively energetic and fun filled performances have captured the attention of the masses and event organizers alike!

Sharpshooter...merupakan band reggae yang semakin mencipta nama di dalam dunia muzik negara.Pernah muncul dan mengambil bahagian dalam Rentak Juara 2008 anjuran RTM.

We are Sharp Shooter. A Modern Reggae band based in Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia. This band was established since 2002/2003. We have already recorded a few songs which are written by ourselves. Our band members consist of Peo(vocalist), Dayanie (keyboard), Alis (lead guitar), Apekz (rhythm guitar), Barloot (bass), Idham(drums),Aboon - (Percussionist). Our music are mostly influenced by 311, Bob Marley, Ddubb, Shaggy Dog, Jendral Kecil, Dewa and StevenAndCoconutTreez and many more. Free Love was formed in 1st of December 2002, they are based in Ipoh; a small old town in Northwest of Malaysia. Members of Free Love also actively involved with their own project. The front man, Mohd Jayzuan is a singer / songwriter, Meor Shahrus Amir fronted legendary Ipoh based indie rock outfit called Muck, Mohd Nadzri is in charge with his power pop combo dubbed as The Hollows and Mohd Hazriq with Harmacy; another indie rock band from Ipoh. These lo-fi rockers are heavily influenced by indie rock music and they mixed it with a little bit of power pop.

In 2003, they recorded their first recording material called "Indie Rock Darling". The song appeared in Kopi SeChewen Vol. 3 compilation released that same year and became a hit in the local independent circuit and in 2005, they recorded another song called "Hey Ho, I Love You!" for Radio Malaya Compilation.

Local fashion brand, Pop Malaya has taken an initiative to endorsed Free Love and funded the band to make a music video for . The video was directed by Blur (famous for Butterfingers' video "Kembali") and shoot by Woo Ming Jin a local film maker (Salon etc.). A local indie film maker by the name Razaisyam Rashid has directed a movie called "My Indie Rock Darling", inspired by Free Love's "Indie Rock Darling".

After years without any new recording material, the band came out with their debut album "Feed Us with Yr Love" in November 2008. The album is released by Bodysurf Music, an indie label from Ipoh and Sizzleteen Records another indie label that is based in New York will release it for the United States market.

Besides performing in their homeland, Free Love also has performed in Singapore and Indonesia. In March 2009, the band will head to the Philippines for 4 days festival in Manila.

Sudah ditubuhkan sejak tahun 1991 dan dibarisi oleh Azreen (vokal,gitar), Azwan (gitar), Izmir (bass), dan Sani (dram). Mereka merupakan antara band perintis bagi scene underground di Kuala Lumpur. Album kompilasi Circle of Friends (diterbitkan secara independent pada 1992) adalah pengalaman pertama Subculture memasuki studio. Turut terlibat dalam album tersebut ialah Spiral Kinetic Circus, Flop Poppy dan Deflowered. Bagi penggemar muzik underground, Subculture adalah satu nama yang wajib diketahui. Semasa kemeriahan senario muzik underground sekitar pertengahan 90 an dahulu, mereka adalah band yang sering diundang dalam setiap gig. Mereka pernah bermain untuk tiga persembahan di Pulau Pinang, Kuala Lumpur dan Johor Bahru dalam masa dua hari. Kesemuanya kerana mereka minat terhadap muzik. Seperkara lagi, kenderaan tidak disediakan dalam persembahan itu. Pada tahun 1994 mereka tampil dengan album sulung, 'Love and Hate' di bawah SZS Production dan edaran oleh VSP. Dengan konsep punk rock, muzik Subculture begitu 'catchy' dengan gubahan muzik yang bertenaga. Ia nampak 'simple' dengan intonasi vokal yang 'happy' serta lirik menyentuh kisah masyarakat dan kehidupan sekeliling. Apa yang menarik, tanpa sokongan promosi dan media yang kuat, 'Love and Hate' berjaya mencecah jualan melebihi 20000 unit! Subculture banyak mengambil pengaruh muzik dari band punk Amerika dan Britain seperti The Ramones, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers dan Sex Pistols. Album kedua, 'Time Knock' muncul pada tahun 1997. Kelahiran album ini menyaksikan Subculture mengukuhkan kedudukan mereka sebagai antara band Inggeris tempatan. Gabungan muzik punk rock, rock & roll dan surf membuatkan Subculture diikuti oleh peminat setianya. Subculture muncul kembali dengan anggota baru pada tahun 2002 iaitu Faoh (gitar), dan Shahrin (dram) yang menggantikan Azwan dan Sani. Pesawat...

Pesawat was born in the hangar of Ampang after occasional just-for-fun jamming session of four boys from Klang Valley. In 2005, they decided to take music seriously and started to write their own material that is different from the rest.

Influenced very much by the bands from the UK, namely Editors, We Are Scientists, Dirty Pretty Things, Keane and Pigeon Detectives, Pesawat's music can be summed up as Indie Garage Rock with Malaysian flavor. Their music comes both in English and Malay.

The band went on hiatus in 2006 due to other commitments and back in the hangar in the end 2007 to write new songs with a new direction with more flavor.

Pesawat was slotted to play at KLUE Urbanscapes 2008 as one of the voter's choice alongside with Komplot, The Otherside Orchestra and Auburn. The event was touted as the biggest art+music festival in Malaysia was held at KL Performing Arts Center.

The band was reviewed in the MalayMail(Malaysia’s top English tabloid) as the discovery of 2008. Due to that, Pesawat has achieved tremendous publicity and has become one of Malaysian band to be given attention.

Other notable shows that they have played includes Converse Century Project in Queensbay Mall Penang, Crossborders at Laundry, KLUE Urbanscapes 2008 at KLPAC, EURO FINAL Indie Jam at Cyberjaya, Indie Youth Fest 2008 in conjuction with Electronic Sports World Cup 2008, XFreshFM X-Gig at Zouk KL, Moonshine and FlyFM Campurtchart Goes Live at Laundry. They have been getting rave reviews due to their energetic live shows.

Their first single entitled “Mirage” is due to release middle October 2008 and has already got an airplay in local radio station XFM. EraFM and FlyFM. The demo version of Mirage was featured in Junk Magazine Online Compilation and Voize - Possibly the best compilation ever! CD.

Currently they are working on a yet-to-be-titled full length album with a second single to be out in November.

Semua ini berlaku kerana keinginan utk menampilkan satu konsep yg original bukan spicy. Justeru, terserahlah kepada halwa telinga yg mendengar utk menilai bentuk musik apakah yg cuba dibawa oleh Pesawat ini.

Pesawat juga adalah sebuah band melayu yg terdiri dari 4 anak muda melayu yang sememangnya berangan untuk mendendangkan lagu inggeris dengan gaya inggeris di samping cuba memartabatkan bahasa melayu di mata dunia. Salah satu band kegemaran aku..memang tidak asing lagi bagi scene music kat JB..
P.O.H atau Plague of Happiness merupakan band yang membawa gerak muzik Ska Punk..
Mereleasekan Album sulung mereka berjudul "KAWAN"..Yang mengandungi 12 lagu yang sungguh menarik perhatian di samping senikata yang begitu terapi yang mempunyai isi-isi tersirat..

Mulanya P.O.H mengeluarkan EP mereka yang pertama iaitu "Push Kepek"..Yang mengandungi lagu-lagu seperti Sick About You,Kawan(original Version),13th May dan lain-lain..Bernaung di bawah Nyaring Records.Menjadikan Rancid dan Kemuri(Japanese SkaPunk idol) sebagai isnpirasi mereka untuk menghasilkan lagu dan senikata..

~From the DRUMMER'S P.O.V~ Those days, Pak Tam BB & Hard Rock was 'The Place'. It was in the mid 90s where I had the opportunity to try out with a newly formed unnamed band. Their former drummer flew off to Australia and left them searching high & low. I wasn't in any serious band at the time so I took the offer. Eventually, the jam session hooked up well and everything else is history and history became everything else! Back in '96 DEADMUSHOOM together with SPIRAL KINETIC CIRCUS (fathul, nazeri, andy & ajin) came out with a SPLIT RELEASE DEMO 1996, recorded live under Neitherworlds Tapes Unlimited. Still Remember Private Whizz?

Private Whizz secara serius bermain muzik pada tahun 1999, bermula apabila mereka melahirkan sebuah E.P yang bertajuk Glass of Hope. Pengasas kumpulan ini, Ahmad Hamidi Ahmad (Midi) mula bermain muzik pada mulanya secara suka-suka bersama rakan-rakan yang lain pada awal 1997. Mereka sering memainkan lagu-lagu cover popular sekitar 70-an seperti kumpulan Deep Purple dan Led Zeppelin sehinggalah kumpulan-kumpulan popular awal 90-an seperti Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam dan Soundgarden. Selain lagu-lagu Ingeris, mereka juga gemarkan muzik rock dari Malaysia, iaitu Search dan juga Wings. Dengan pengaruh daripada kumpulan-kumpulan tersebut, Midi mula menulis lagu yang pertama berjudul Bohemian yang telah diselitkan di dalam E.P pertama mereka Glass of Hope. Selain Ahmad Hamidi Ahmad (penyanyi/gitar), Private Whizz juga dianggotai oleh Mohd Rezwan 'Wan'(bass), Mohd Hasanul Abu Bakar 'Anul' (drums) and Hasrul Hafizi 'PG' (gitar utama). Setelah lima bulan menjual sendiri E.P tersebut, mereka telah dipanggil oleh seorang penganjur untuk mengantikan sebuah kumpulan yang telah menarik diri untuk salah satu persembahan. Mereka terus bersetuju dan pada 19 Oktober 1999 menjadi satu tarikh bersejarah dan yang begitu bermakna bagi Private Whizz kerana tarikh itu merupakan kali pertama mereka membuat pertunjukan pentas dikhalayak ramai. Akan tetapi, tidaklah ramai mana pun. Private Whizz merasa sedikit hampa apabila persembahan pertama mereka yang terletak di Colors Damansara Utama itu tidak mendapat sambutan ramai orang. Walau bagaimana pun, Private Whizz tetap memberikan satu persembahan yang terbaik. Dan dengan melakukan yang terbaik itulah, Private Whizz ditarik keluar oleh seorang lagi penganjur. Penganjur kali ini telah mengajak Private Whizz bermain di sebuah persembahan yang agak besar di Plaza Phoenix. Untuk pertunjukan yang kedua ini Private Whizz berkongsi pentas bersama 23 lagi kumpulan yang hebat, di antaranya termasuklah nama-nama besar pada waktu itu seperti LyMe dan Custom Daisy. Sehingga kini Private Whizz bukan sahaja banyak menerima persembahan underground malah bermain juga di majlis-majlis prompt nite sekitar hotel-hotel terkemuka di Kuala Lumpur. Selain itu, Private Whizz turut terlibat dalam sesi temuramah bersama majalah-majalah dan surat khabar utama di Malaysia, di antaranya ialah Majalah Dragon, ROTTW, Konsert, Majalah 3G, Bacaria, Harian Metro, The Star, The Sun dan beberapa lagi. Bukan itu sahaja, Private Whizz juga dijemput untuk ditemuramah oleh bebeberapa stesen radio tempatan seperti Red 104.9, Wow fm, dan X-fresh fm. Pada tahun 2002 Private Whizz diterima untuk bersama empat lagi kumpulan lain untuk menghasilkan sebuah kompilasi yang diterbitkan oleh Life Records. Pada tahun 2003 Private Whizz mengambil langkah untuk senyap seketika, kerana ingin memberikan tumpuan penuh terhadap E.P yang baru. Private Whizz terpaksa menghadkan persembahan waktu itu, walau pun banyak menerima jemputan dari pihak penganjur. Ia mengambil masa yang lama untuk menyiapkan E.P terbaru ini kerana kesibukan ahli-ahli kumpulan dengan kerjaya masing-masing. Walau bagaimana pun, Private Whizz berjaya menyiapkan sepenuhnya E.P tersebut dan ia telah dipasarkan pada November 2004. Ia merupakan E.P pertama Private Whizz dalam Bahasa Melayu dan diberi judul A Proloque to Something Better. Juara merupakan salah satu lagu yang terkandung dalam E.P ini telah pun diputarkan beberapa kali di stesen-stesen radio tempatan seperti X-fresh fm, Red 104.9, Radio Muzik (Muzik fm) dan salah satu ruangan di Era fm (rock di era selama tiga minggu berturut-turut). Apa yang menarik lagi, Private Whizz telah dijemput oleh pihak TV2 untuk ditemubual dalam salah satu rancangan mereka berjudul Let's Jam. Pada akhir tahun 2005 (tahun sengsara bagi Private Whizz) kesemua anggota Private Whizz telah bersepakat untuk melahirkan sebuah album. Setelah berlatih berbulan-bulan kemudian masuk ke studio dan setelah rakaman siap Private Whizz cuba ke beberapa syarikat rakaman. Banyak kesukaran berlaku diantara pihak kumpulan dan juga syarikat rakaman. Ada syarikat yang ingin menerima tapi disuruh rakam semula lagu mengikut kehendak syarikat rakaman. Apabila dirakam semula, disuruh tunggu pula. Ada juga yang suruh Private Whizz tukar konsep ikut ala-ala indon. Itu takkan mungkin berlaku. Ada yang dah bagi kontrak, tapi belum sempat nak sign syarikat tutup pula. Proses rakaman telah dibuat banyak kali tapi tidak juga dapat untuk menambat hati syarikat rakaman. Pada tahun 2007 Private Whizz bersepakat untuk mengeluarkan sendiri album ini tanpa pertolongan orang lain. 70 % lagu ditulis balik. 100% lagu dirakam semula. Jalan menjadi kembali lurus, malah kerja-kerja yang dirancang dapat dilaksanakan dengan sempurna. Ini mungkin kerana anggota kumpulan sudah biasa dengan kerja-kerja D.I.Y. Private Whizz mengeluarkan satu prinsip baru yang berbunyi "Kalau orang taknak tolong, kita buat sendiri". Alhamdulillah segalanya berjalan lancar. Album Private Whizz bakal muncul pada 29 Oktober 2007 nanti, dan akan diedarkan oleh Power Records Sdn. Bhd. Album ini diterbitkan sendiri oleh Private Whizz dengan menggunakan nama The Whizz Kit Music Entertainment. Album tersebut diberi judul Lebih Agresif dan mengandungi 11 buah lagu. Album ini juga telah mendapat sentuhan tangan dari Fauzi Marzuki kerana beliau telah mengadun dan masteringkan lagu-lagu yang terkandung. Ahmad 'Jimmy' Ali pula bertindak sebagai producer

Broken Scars

Under the Broken Scar moniker, Kevin Teh, a charismatic singer-songwriter from Malaysia has made head turning music and delivered memorable performances pumped with high energy from the very first show as a solo act. Ask anyone in the Malaysian music scene and they will tell you that Kevin is like a kid on sugar high.

With the release of the his debut album “Midnight In St. Kilda” in 2006, there was no turning back. The first two singles from the album, “Scratch” and “Down” hit the number one spot on the Xfresh FM Independent Charts. “Venus In September” was also featured in a number of compilation albums as well as the popular Malaysian teen television series, “Kami”.

Over the years, Broken Scar has gone through various incarnations from performing solo to a duo and finally to a full blown band. Kevin played shows relentlessly and toured nationwide to reach his audiences armed with a set list of high octane anthems to laidback heart-melting ballads. The shows varied from intimate spaces such as No Black Tie and The Laundry to stadium sized concerts when Kevin and the band performed at Rock The World 7, Malaysia’s largest annual music festival. Kevin has also ventured overseas to Singapore and Australia.

2008 has seen the launch of Broken Scar’s Double A-Side Single, “The Shooting Star”. This release highlights two sides of the band; the ballad-esque acoustic side through the catchy chart topping single, “Shooting Star” and the heavier side through “Until I Fall”. That’s not all, the band has also thrown in two bonus acoustic tracks, “Shooting Star (Acoustic Version)” and a light-hearted track, “The Alien Song” in this release.

This is the band’s way of saying thank you to all their fans and friends for the support throughout the years. They have put together a sleek website in a form of an online EP to launch these songs which includes live videos from the band’s latest gigs featuring live versions of the new songs, lyrics, credits, thank you notes and heaps of pictures. You might just find yourself or someone you know in those pictures.

Joanna & Co was first formed in 2006 when Joanna was discovered on a local radio station, XfreshFM by local producers bard and arab. Herewith, assembled Ijam, Kusha and Farid for Joanna. They instantly found music chemistry and a brother-sister bond that made them inseparable.

Joanna Renisa is a 23 year old rock princess, born to rock the stage and shake her tail feathers. Her infectious smiles and famous crowd teasing moments melts the hearts of men and lesbians. This singer/songwriter first started singing profesionally with an RnB girl group called Harmonee at the age of 7 at hotel events for kids. She soon rocked out of the girl group and into a band named after her :)

Ijam, the coolest guitarist in the band (that’s because he is the only guitarist in the band) plays an important role when it comes to song writing. 80% of Joanna & Co’s songs are composed by Ijam and Joanna. Therefore, he is the coolest. Ijam is currently playing for other local underground bands like Freygyle, Elm Kids and etc etc. Ijam is an icon when it comes to combing hair. Jaws of all ages falls flat on the ground whenever they see Ijam’s hair combing routine.

Farid looks like he eats kids; but he really is a funny guy. Everywhere he goes people calls him "brader", its either because his brother billy is hot, or because he looks like everyone’s brother. Farid joined the band in early 2007 when the previous drummer was too chicken shit to play for Joanna & Co. Farid was pulled by Ijam and it was a blessing that Joanna & Co is finally settled after the lost of the chicken shit drummer who stole cds. According to Joanna, Farid has really good taste in music and he deserves the spotlight in the band. However, this funnyman is reported to be very shy.

Kusha is the last puzzle that perfected Joanna & Co. His mad bass skills makes people wanna be him or wanna be WITH him. Kusha's lips contradicts with his hands. He doesn’t talk much but yet his fingers can pluck mad tunes. There are no other way for me, to describe how CRAZY this dude is. You just have to come down and see him for yourself. I swear, he will blow ur mind away. And as far as questions asked towards Kusha about his mad skills, a humble Kusha said "No Comment."

Bermula pada awal 2008, Nabil, seorang pencipta lagu dan penulis lirik yang amat meminati musik eksperimen , jazz, dan surf, bercita-cita untuk mewujudkan sebuah kugiran di Malaysia untuk memenuhi cuti musim panasnya di tanahair setiap tahun yang mendatang.Berplatformkan layar putih internet yang sinis, Nabil memulakan pelayarannya mencari bakat-bakat besar yang bersembunyi di balik industri musik indie negara.

Pertemuan dengan Tatyana , pencinta musik alternatif yang berpengalaman luas dalam bidang nyanyian, dan Apit, penyanjung musik garage + indie,yang giat dalam penciptaan lagu dan lirik untuk kugiran indie rakan-rakan seperjuangannya , seperti telah ditakdirkan. Pertukaran pendapat dan idea dalam penghasilan musik bagaikan mencetus kemaraan bersama gabungan menjadi satu formula dalam pengwujudan sebuah kugiran bernafas baru dalam industri musik Malaysia.

‘Bicara’ , lagu lama nukilan Nabil beberapa tahun sebelum , menjadi tunggak pertama pengubahan semula oleh Selamat Pagi Gadis yang nama kugiran ini diberikan oleh Tatyana secara spontan.

Dalam pada SPG giat mengolah dan menggubah lagu-lagu baru , Nabil memperkenalkan Zizie , rakan lamanya yang juga mempunyai minat yg mendalam dalam seni muzik tempatan dan luar negara dan juga pernah bergiat dalam orkestra institusi pembelajarannya sebagai drummer, kepada Tatyana dan Apit, lalu menerapkan Zizie di dalam kugiran SPG.

Sekepulangannya Nabil tanahair awal Jun 2008, SPG mula bertemu dan bermain di studio tanpa bimbingan bunyi bass tetap. Syed Ali, pemusik genre funk+fusion, rakan rapat Nabil sewaktu di luar negeri, kemudiannya dipanggil menyertai SPG secara tidak di rancang pada mulanya untuk membantu proses rakaman, namun keserasian Syed Ali bersama SPG membuatkan Syed Ali kekal di dalam kugiran ini lalu wujudlah kugiran Selamat Pagi Gadis yang lengkap barisan pemusiknya.

Pada waktu warkah ini ditulis, SPG telah selesai merakamkan 2 buah lagu secara kasar di Studio Enchik. Shami, Gombak dan akan menyambung proses rakaman beserta beberapa buah lagu lagi untuk dipenuhkan secara padat di dalam produk EP pertama SPG yang diberi nama ‘Kinetik Hati’ yang akan keluar tidak lama lagi. Untuk memenuhi permintaan rakan-rakan dan pendengar, SPG melahirkan produk single pertama berjudul Waktu Indah Dahulu berserta bonus lagu Bicara di dalamnya secara D.I.Y terlebih dahulu.

Di sini Selamat Pagi Gadis ingin mengulungkan jutaan ucapan terima kasih kepada keluarga, sanak saudara, rakan-rakan seperjuangan, rakan-rakan dan kenalan yang tidak putus-putus membantu dan menyokong. Without hesitation the hunter pressed the ‘add to friends’ button on his spaceship called FTec.

TATYANA , an alternative music addict and very well experienced in singing joined forces together with APIT, garage+indie music buff and very active in song and lyric writing for his comrades. Their meeting with ‘the hunter’ triggered some ideas and opinions and later they realised that, “hey we got chemistry!”. Together they worked hard to form a formula that none of you geeks can find in any mathematic textbooks.

‘Bicara’ or known in English as ‘conversation’ was aeons ago created by the hunter as a secret weapon. It just that the hunter believes that Bicara is like a wine, the longer u keep it, the more precious it will become. This song is the first one to be re-arranged by ‘Selamat Pagi Gadis’ or in English, Good Morning ma Lady. (Yes people, our band do have a name)

ZIZIE, an old friend of the hunter who was so into the local and international music scene and previously from a local institute of orchestra as a drummer, was later introduced to the victims; TATYANA and APIT at that time was humanly trafficked online. After negotiating for awhile, he agreed to join Good Morning ma Lady wholeheartedly and some said he was in tears.

The hunter returned to his hometown and Good Morning ma Lady then grew without a permanent bassist. Syed Ali, (standing ovation) a good friend of the hunter while in Glasgow was summoned from the shadow to help nurture Good Morning ma Lady. Syed Ali @ Alejandro put the rest of them in awe (yes literally, they went “awwwwwww!”) after nailing the bassline with a crappy semi functioned 5-string bass rented from the studio. Yes pity the charming alejandro since he left his shiny beatkeeper somewhere far far away. It was historical when Alejandro team-up with the rest of the gang.

Good Morning ma Lady currently has recorded 2 songs at MR SHAHMI’s breeding ground and in the future will produce their first EP that will be named ‘kinetic soul’. We would like to extend our gratitude to you music lovers and to the peeps who took their few minutes of their life paying attention to us and especially to the ones that had carved something in the comment box. nyaahaha

ESTRELLA

Formed in 2006, Estrella originally consisted of three members; Ashraf, Syariful Adzwan (Yob), and fronted by Liyana. In May 2006, the Troubaganger acoustic gig marked their first-ever performance, initially winning over the audience at cozy La Bodega KL. However, very soon after the three members were then reduced to the current two as Ashraf decided to leave the band for personal reasons.

Armed with their guitars and heartfelt tunes, Liyana and Yob began circulating the local music scene with their own brand of acoustic music. Numerous open-mic sessions and gigs at notable shows around town followed suit; namely Moonshine, Troubadours, Doppelganger, and No Black Tie, and the band began to generate more attention for the duo from both the audience and the organizers.

In June 2006, Estrella’s first single, ‘Take It Slow’ was featured in Troubadours’s “The Voices Next Door” compilation album, and the song was then taken by RedComm productions as part of the soundtrack for the SunSilk TV series Impian Illiyana which ran for 13 consecutive weeks. Gaining some pretty decent exposure in the media as well as the indie scene, friendships were also made with likeminded individuals and groups along the way, providing them with even more ideas and opportunity to grow musically.

Having captured the attention of the Laguna Music masterminds, Estrella further evolved their genre from indie jazz to a slightly more complex sound, with dreamy and spacey after-effects. Under the suggestion of Laguna Music Producer, Jeffrey Little, the strummers now became a light band - with members, Shamsul Idzwan on percussions and Jeffrey Little, himself on drums.

Making rounds at gigs around town as a full band, opening for Seven Collar T-shirt for their showcase ‘A Seven Collar Sonique Cinematique’ and performing at the annual KL Sing Song 2007 show alongside notable singer-songwriters like Azmyl Yunor, Pete Teo and Shanon Shah, gave the band ample media exposure and a good headstart.

Having worked their way to perfecting their existing and new material, Estrella’s self-titled album was released on the 28th of December 2007. Following the release of the album, Estrella released two singles, ‘Ternyata’ & ‘Stay’, to reach-out to both the Malay & English markets.

Everyday musings and inward thoughts are the main elements in their music, using simplicity as the main staple. Being so new to the scene, Estrella is simply going with the flow, and taking in stride whatever it is that comes their way. Keep you ears peeled for this act, they’re bound to reach and capture the hearts of music-enthusiasts everywhere.

Komplot released their first single in 2007 which was aptly called ‘Konflik Metropolis’. It became the rave of the town and about. It all soon became clear as Komplot returns the compliment that the local independent scene had. Komplot bared it all on their first ever show at Laundry Bar, when literally hundreds if not thousands came to the modish bar to gratify their curiosity as to what the hype about Komplot is all about. The show exploded with broken furniture flew about, massive dance-pit encircled, and significantly those who came were enthused and this started the craze called Komplot. From then on, it was apparent that Komplot is a band to pass on for and the songs to live by.

Flash forward to 2008, as Komplot grew more established, it was inevitable that Komplot had to release a brand new recording following the hugely successful single, ‘Konflik Metropolis’. This was said to be a mini album cum EP also some sort of a teaser for an upcoming full length album. That’s right. A full length album is in the works as we speak. However, the public whom now had become all too familiar with Komplot, pressed for a lengthier recording. Yet, Komplot understood a release can only be released when it is supposed to be released no matter how great the urgency. The songs in the EP had to go through rigorous regime in terms of re-phrasing, re-mixing and unorthodoxly re-recorded. This was done however to justify the hype and the demand that the public has pressed upon Komplot.

Komplot’s transcends all when it comes to critics and admirers alike. Both acknowledge the energy that Komplot gives a free rein to and the public would remain vigilant as to how Komplot would progress. And indeed, this is how Komplot relishes the challenge under adversity with their eclectic mix of band members. Eclectic in the sense of confluence, achievement and confidence. Zac, a regular player in the circuit, hits the melodies with such ease and commandeering while maintaining stage zest ness and authority. While Jeff ‘the whore’, is the ‘in-demand’ saxophonist at the moment and he calls himself home in Komplot. He cites Micheal Brecker and Hello Kitty as primary influences. However, the centre of gravity which makes sense to all of it all is the guitarist cum the chief songwriter. He calls himself Amrud. We call him the prodigious guitarist who brings to the band hope, desire, motivation and lastly, monies. Not many à la mode riffs can be churned out of a Godin. Yet he manages to do it with bravado, every time. Yup, every time.

The band’s structure would be complete with the introduction of Komplot’s groove section comprising Chino and Haekal. The latter is the bassist. Walking down Komplot’s groove section, one would reminisce the good moment when funk is all boorish and uncouth. The groove section stand by the tryst that embraces the roots of groove and the energy which seemed to have lost it all in translation. Yet, what path do men take? As fame is death’s little sister, isn’t it all too corny that men should partake a path that conjoins passion and contentment instead of gluttony and sheer pompousness. Komplot firmly believes in the spirit of musicianship and the freedom that comes with it. Hence, Komplot embraces the D.I.Y and the independent spirit while being realistic and pragmatic to the reality of the local music industry. Komplot hopes to shatter the mental hurdle that independent acts should suck and be pain in the asses. Komplot believes in the thriving of the independent scene and would strive hard to go beyond the localized genre ship and ultimately to penetrate the persistent and conservative listeners.

TUMBLEWEED OF GREENLAND

In late of 1998, a big explosion of talent and interest has happened at a lovely neighborhood near Alor Star. The pieces of the explosion fell on the big green grass field and suddenly mixed together on the same land becoming a music plant called “Tumbleweed of Greenland”. With the power of rock and the love of music, TOG started to rock the dull world from that day to spread their messages to all the peoples that would listen. The music is all about life, love and oxygen.

The sound and style of their music was much influenced by the moist music from several bands such as Silverchair, Weezer, The Cure, Oasis, Radiohead, The Juliana Theory, Stereophonics, Piebald, Spiral Kinetic Circus, Butterfingers and Salleh Yaacob. Instead of all influences, they still managed to keep their own originality and trademark as a band.

This band has smoothly transforms their selves from a growing grunge and punk childhood's band into more meaningful music lover's band with new attitudes and genre. Their music can be categorized as alternative rock with squeezes of emotional and pop elements.

After some revolution of line – up and music, now the band is carried out by Anuar as the lead guitarist and sub-vocalist, Azizul as the vocalist and guitarist, Yusri as the bassist and Anass as the drummer. Tumbleweed of Greenland also has involved in several compilation projects like Lust Minute Compilation (Stuck Music – 2001), Wait Semenet Compilation (Stuck Music – 2003) and From Seattle to KL vol. 2 (Speedrawk – 2004). They also have released their EP entitled The Hope & The Distance in late 2004.

The band started somewhere in January 2003. Inspired by a lot of British / Swedish pop band that they love such as Suede, Mansun, The Bluetones,The Boo Radleys, The Seahorses, The Wannadies, Tommy 16 and many more.The single 'Diary Of Love' were recorded and have been released in the compilation including all the bands from their state Perak.Have played first show as the opening act at the 'Kargo Rock Festival' on 10 May 2003.The Hans hopes to bring in a new breeze of fresh air and surely something new for the local music scene with their style especially with its music that hope all young people & adults call relate to.The band plays music on the lighter & brighter concept,that talks about love,life and hope.Cheers!
